A few of us have been getting a race together almost every Saturday night.
In the lounge looks for SoCal SK2. We usually start with karts, then change to Miata's, then?
we start about 6:00pm
I'm Stevec35
See you there,

PS3 with GT5 I think is the only way to get on.
If you haven't gotten on line in a while make sure to long on early and download all the newest required updates

Is there a way to see friends in the game? I felt pretty lost trying to figure out how to play online. BTW Steve, I played GT3 and 4 so I'm not a total noob. I was LMAO at you guys to myself... will have to get a headset.

Tech support will be on the way this weekend. I'll even test a couple races for you ;).
I guess I should finally start playing that game.
The one time I went to play online for GT5, it was hard to even find where my friends were; it's not the most intuitive interface when compared to PC online games.

I hope I get this right. Once you added a "Friend Request" it's easier. Don't ask me to tell you how to do that.
Go to your GT home page. Then click on "Community" on the left. This page will come up. If they're online a small green dot will appear in the upper left of their avatar. Click on their avatar, if they're racing an icon will appear next to their "Lounge" icon. Then you click on that. That will tell where they're racing and who's racing with them. This is where my memory is fuzzy, I think there is a button to click on that say "join room" Click on that and you're done.
Hope that helps
Steve

Once you guys get settled in and have a more consistent number of players, you should try organizing a series.
I just finished a GT5 S2000 Challenge with about 15 other players, we raced on different tracks every week with equally modded S2000's. Power was capped at 305 hp and other factors like weight and tires were regulated as well. It's really fun once you find a nice balance and setup. And of course, a 16 car field going 4 wide into turn 1 was quite an exhilarating experience with penalty and mechanical damage set to high, even if it was a video game.
I'm now involved with another GT5 online series that limits the cars to 500 Performance Points (a new feature added). This allows you to add/remove ballast, restrict power, and aero to achieve the PP goal, thus making the playing field a lot more even with proper tire and chassis restrictions in place. And we also announced teams for constructor purposes.

Should be very interesting... So far the Lotus guys are dominating the field in practice with their GT Auto Race Modded 111R's weighing in at 800-900ish kg with 240+hp. They appear to have non-existant braking zones
So that's something to think about for the future, since it's always fun to play with friends.

Tengentially related: San Francisco / Fresno autocrosser Bryan Heitkotter was in the top 32 qualifiers in the "Gran Turismo Academy" competition, who recently were flown to Orlando, Florida for an elimination round. The top 16 are going to Silverstone, England, for a 7 day training and competition in real cars. Bryan was in the top 16, and I think he even earned the most points...
