If so......how do you do it? Mine is always a mess. Every time I want to find something, I have to sift through piles of papers, most of which I probably don't need. Arrrggggg. :mrt:
HELP! Is there a 12 step program somewhere?

lol, thought u were talking about computers, hee hee.
You should take a picture of your desk!
Studies show that people with messy desks are 1.15 times more productive than people who have very clean and organized desks... yes, I pulled that # out of my ass.

Well you could do what I do periodically. Hire a high school work program student. My company gets about 150 each year at this time. Teach them scanning and computer skills, have a taxonomy established in advance, and have them scan and file each document on your computer, with key words, and hard copy file the orginials. Load Google Desktop to find documents easily later.
A more problematic alternative involves lighter fluid and an ignition device.

I have a 5 drawer filing cabinet in my office, with about 5 pieces of paper in it. The rest is spread around my 8x8 cube.
Embarassing, especially since my mom stops by every once in a while to work from, but it works.

Yes, I've heard that 89.2 percent of the time, statistics are made up on the spot.
George, I'm a messy desk person myself, but I've heard of this theory that sounds like good advice--whenever you pick up a piece of paper, do something with it; either file it away, throw it away or give it to someone else. It's all too easy to just put that nonessential piece of paper back down without dealing with it. Certain essential documents will need to stay, but there is a lot of clutter that can eliminated this way.

I'm very productive ... as is evident by my messy desk. When ever I clean up, I can't find anything, but of course I DO spend a lot of time looking for crap!?!?
Here's my friends computer desktop ... talking about both types of desktops

You should see what it looks like behind me ... after my monthly desk cleanings ... which turns into piles of papers, etc. on the floor, couch, the other desk. Hey, I'm just too busy to be bothered. Let's not talk about the garage.

Looks like you're running an identity theft ring on your side of the desk, Mako ;)

I was clearing one up! Bunch of charges on a card that I don't use ... but almost all of them with reverse charges canceling them out ?!

At work I have an all-in-one filing system in that all the paper goes in one pile.
At home, my computer desktop is quite strictly organized while every physical, horizontal space is occupied by either an electronic device or some sort of paper, paper, film or digital media.

Identity thieves are more organized than that.

I like keeping a clear desk; less for me to worry about (loosing important documents, forgetting deadlines, etc., wasting time looking for stuff).
