My ITA track Miata is MegaSquirt tuned for 98 octane. Luckily we've got 100 octane pump gas at our local 76 station down the street.

I think there is a Yamaha dealer on Rosemead. Otherwise, Bert's on Azuza will have them.
I think the nearest Kart shop is probably Pitt's in Van Nuys.
Its possible Blair's Speed Shop on Foothill will have them.
Probably better off at Bert's because you need accessories like the a spout tube for easy pouring.

Cycle Parts West in garden grove if near by.
Note they try not to call them fuel/gas jugs any more since california requires those stupid self sealing nozzels that make you spill all over your car/generator. I thin CPW said "You mean an 'Auxiliary' jug".

Temple City Motorsports on Rosemead, south of Las Tunas and north of lower Azusa? I bought some Motul (smells like roses!) for my bike there. I think their 5-gallon "utility jugs" were $30. Might be cheaper at Jegs or Summit.

Thanks ... filling up at the race tracks when possible, ie. Buttonwillow this weekend.
.... but since a lot of folks here DO use the 76 "100" octane, please do tell us what we might be missing by buying it?

Pretty much any motorcycle shop. Del Amo Motorsports near the old TRW has them.

I used to buy my race fuel from Downs (

This is good advice, I only use Sunoco or VP from a sealed container for the same reason.

Nice for you fancy "race car" owners....
But Stock and Street Touring must use street legal taxes paid Service Station Pump gas.

I've never seen that one before (not saying it's not there). Do you know the rule number? I have known of people in SD who buy the 55g drums, and pump their own. I guess this means no fill ups at Military base pumps either...

3.6.A... Pump fuel is defined as that which is “Federally approved for use on public highways.” This includes the pump fuel known as E85, but does not allow racing-type fuels which are available at service station pumps.
I guess I had issue with Steves statement in whole. I agree with the "street legal", I was questioning the "taxes paid Service Station Pump gas" I still don't see the requirement for "taxes paid". Even though I feel it implied it needed to be physically pumped based upon prior posts, I'll assume he meant service station "type" gasoline's.
RE 100 octane or anything other than 85-93 typically found (nationwide) gasoline: Were does one find out about “Federally approved for use on public highways” fuel. When you roll up to the 100 octane pump, do you have to put in in a container? are there no Fed road taxes added to the price? Or does that required Fed Tax/State tax sticker appear there? If you can pump directly into your tank, and a tax sticker exists, I would think that would qualify as Fed approved.

I bought a 5 gal fuel canister at the Buttonwillow track store ... a bit more expensive, but supporting a supporter and filled it up with 100 octane VP fuel at the trackside pump, besides filling up the car on Saturday.

Those fuels that come out of a pump and pay all taxes (not just sales) are probably street legal.
Those race fuels that come out of a pump (but are probably violating state and federal laws in doing so) that don't pay taxes are not street legal.
It doesn't say taxes in the rule. It says:
Pump gas.
Street legal.
but not race gas that isn't approved for street use that may be available in some pump somewhere.
Road taxes is just an easy way to identify what is designated as a street legal fuel at the pump.
This only applies to Stock and ST. SP, SM, P, and M goes party on.

I've never seen anything at the pump greater than 93 personally. So I don't know if they (100 for example) have "not for street use" labels on them. But assuming you are paying Fed and state taxes (see sticker on pump), no matter the octane, I would think that would be "street legal" as you have paid the taxes for such.
I'm going to assume that higher grade fuels out of a can may very well state not for use on public roads.

They had to add the language warning against non-legal race fuel out of a pump because people twist the rules in ways they know are wrong. I know people who collect gas pumps. Sticking a syphon hose in a pail of 114 Sport gas or worse some of the oxygenated rocket fuel gas but running through a pump doesn't make it legal "pump gas".
Sunoco stations in different parts of the country have street legal 100 unleaded at the pump. And some 76 stations on the West Coast do as well.
That said the ONLY fuel use I'd even remotely consider a protest on regardless of where it came from is if somebody was caught using the nasty oxygenated stuff, but in stock or ST that stuff will melt your cat anyway so if it was being used it would raise even more suspicions.
