Don't know anything about this car, but the price is right, and it's local!

Vintage and FF eligible Van Diemen RF84. Originally a FF1600, converted to CFC, and now back to FF1600 configuration. Four races on total ground-up rebuild as a CFC, zero races as a FF. Newly built, legal uprated by Jim Grubbs Motorsports out of Valencia, CA. The block was sleeved and new cast pistons installed. Bosch distributor. New camshaft, pulleys, ARP main and head studs. Five port oil pump rebuilt by Wayne Mitchell Engineering. How new is the engine? It is still running Joe Gibbs Break-In oil. Tilton single plate 5.5” clutch and legal minimum weight flywheel from Neil Porter. New clutch disc. Annular clutch assembly from Taylor Race Engineering. Hewland Mark 9- Four races since rebuild, and comes with 10 sets of ratios. Taylor Race Engineering axles. Bilsteins rebuilt, also 4 races old. The bodywork (ff1600 version) was purchased from Universal Racing Services in England. Converted to FF2000, now back to FF1600 with repairs done properly with Kevlar reinforcements. The car currently is sporting a REALLY bad matte black vehicle wrap. Underneath the wrap it is primed and ready for paint with minimal prep needed. Used American Racers are mounted on Centerline wheels. The sale also includes one set of Revolution FC wheels.

I have a binder of receipts to document all of the work done to this car. Spares include extra suspension arms, and a jig for the lower rear a-arm. SCCA and VARA logbooks. FF1600 SCCA homologation papers included. Outside of normal race prep, the car needs belts and an updated fire system to be truly race ready.

Price- $5,900- bring a trailer and come pick it up. The car is located in Valencia, CA, just north of Los Angeles off of Interstate 5. Contact me via PM or gimenez@ca.rr.com . I am a pink slipped teacher trying to send his kids to college. I've hung on to this for as long as I could. Hence this sale...
Thanks for looking.

Robert- What do you know about the Van Diemen's as far as big driver fitment? I remember talking a couple of years ago with the CM guys about fitting (when I was 60lbs heavier). And they said different chassis were more accommodating than others. I think Swifts were a no go. Seems like Van Diemen's might have been recommended, but I just can't remember for sure.

I'd rather have a 300hp Honda powered DM Lotus 7. But this costs a fraction of that and fits even better in the trailer.

I know some of the VDs fit larger drivers and some of them don't. At least I was warned away from some because of my size 13 shoes...
You'd have to go check this one for yourself.

I've got a Mondiale (Skip Barber's formula car of choice) and I've also heard the Reynards are a good possibility.

You can go over to Eric's and try on the Mondiale for size.

Here's another Mondiale 85 for sale:

Looks like a good car, but needs a new motor. You'd still be in it for less than $10k.

If I didn't have the phantom, I'd be all over that. Looks like the tubes are wide for a girthier driver. My big problem in Robert's car was fitting my big feet on the one pedal at a time.

Wonder if I have room for two cars.

Besides, the phantom and the formula ford are both more like 1/2 cars...

Its like a Jag... You need one to drive while the other is in the shop.

Jags are better with an LSx under the hood.

OK, so who bought it?

The seller just posted on Apexspeed that the car is headed to the world of autocross...

Lesson 1 - Practice getting in and out of the car so I don't look so feeble.

Lesson 2 - Learn how to lose weight to preclude the need to have an engine hoist or something similar to assist getting fatty out of the car.

I'm making a few mods to fit the car to both Joey and I so we can lounge in the car in air conditioned comfort. :P Driver fit issues almost solved. :gpower:

I need to fix a hydraulic leak I spotted last night. Looks like a rear brake line. Hopefully, it's an easy fix so we can take the car for a spin.

We're both getting excited to get the car out on course. With any luck, we'll have it out this weekend. :mrt:
