Cal Club Autocross Forums

Any of you know anything about whats going on over there?

Will be visiting & thought it might be fun to race an event while there.

They are called Sprints or Autotests over there, and you will find they are a bit different than here...

The clubs are very much regionalized and they don't seem to have a national set of rules, so there is great variation.
Finding one where you don't have to wear a fire-proof driving suit might be a challenge.

But as I said, that's just one small region of the country.

There are Marque clubs, like http://www.SELOC.org" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; (South-East Lotus Owner's Club) that have a national presence, and so are more likely to have a list of events nationwide. The SELOC guys were very welcoming when I went and joined them for some events. Having a Lotus might have helped in that regard...

Thanks for the links, I'll check them out after lunch, Im going next month & will spend most of my time in Scotland close to Edinburgh & then a few days around london..
Seem their "autocross" is more like a rally from what I found.
I was hoping to maybe rent a car that I could race for one day just to see the difference.
But I don't plan to take my fire suit & stuff like that with me.

But they have a ludicrous number of old WWII airfields.

Which they don't seem to use for our speed/layout Auto Crosses. I saw a video of an air field "Auto Cross" that was VERY fast ... basically road course time trial.

I have never done nor seen a gymkhana like the video you posted.

During my time spent in the UK I have participated in the following on old airstrips:

I have done an Autotest which is a fairly low speed autocross - not unlike what you get if we had smaller lots. This took place on an old military base (now used for private planes and swap meets) using the runways.

I have done a Sprint which is a fairly high speed autocross - not unlike what we do at El Toro. The fastest car there was a Caterham on A048s. No formula cars. Nothing on slicks. So maybe the course was closer to what PCA does at El Toro. The mk1 Elise I was driving was into 3rd gear for a couple seconds and then back to 2nd the rest of the run, but I've been in 3rd in an Elise on our courses. This took place on an active military base using the runways.

I have also done a full-on track day in an Elise where I was deep into 4th. This took place on a former military base that is now exclusively used for racing.
