Hey Sebastian,

I entered and checked "other." I can't help with Sunday tear-down, but I can be there on Friday at 4 p.m. or so for course setup. Let me know.

Sorry Doug, at this point I can't say you are in. I think it will be a well subscribed practice given it's proximity on the calendar to the big show.

You could have checked Seb's friends though. ;)

Edit: Thanks for the link Jack. I was :sleepy:

No big deal if I don't get in...just offering up my willingness to do some extra work. Plan B is to run Sunday with X-runs.

Posted under "Aug 14 Autocross" as well, cause you can never have too many postings...

Seb: I "registered" for PRACTICE as well as the Sunday Autocross. But in both cases, it indicated "no payment due". Is there something I'm supposed to do further?

Also, I guess if I don't get into the PRACTICE, I won't run Sunday either. Please advise.

One other thing, Warren Leach recently handled sending in my SCCA memebership (about 2-3 weeks ago). I don't know my SCCA # at this point and therefore did not enter one. Warren indicated that Gayle Jardine could help me with this. Please advise.

Can you tell I'm a Newby?

Before you freak, yes, that's me that signed up for a practice.

Not sure what you are looking for advice or if you are just waiting to be advised if you are in, but I wouldn't recommend this approach.

First, you're giving up way to much fun missing out on the Sunday runs. Regular runs ($30) plus x-runs (no work, $25) would be 8 runs with one work assignment at our typical Sunday events. And you'll have access to more instructors, etc. to help. Compared to $65 for 12 runs, plus two long work assignments on a Saturday, seems like a pretty fair deal.

Second, if you never show up on Sunday, there is little chance of people getting to know you as a strong supporter/good worker/etc. type person. (The type of person who usually makes the first cut at the entry limited practices.)

KJ: Did not mean it that way. To me, at least at this stage, "PRACTICE" means practice for an upcoming Sunday event. I recognize that the course will be reversed. But practice is practice. Sunday, to me, means competition. Going in on Sunday only is not my game plan, but if it's the only option, I'm in. But, I want to get better and better. That takes "Practice".

As for not showing up on Sundays, most of my events to date have been Sunday only, including Sunday only for the recent El Toro 2-Day Divisional. Even though I only participated on Sunday, I was there at 7:30 a.m. on FRIDAY to 'help' and "support" with getting the course set up. George Schilling can attest to my volunteerism. I'm not bragging. I'm just making the point that I'm willing to be part of the effort and work that is necessary.

As for work assignments, they come with the territory. I never miss a work assignment.

If you don't get in the practice, why not follow the strategy of running the championship and taking X runs.

Thanks for clarifying. Saturday's are a practice that might be better described as a test-n-tune. By its very nature, it is more difficult to get help on a Saturday unless you arrange in advance with someone else. You'll find that at certain times of the year, primarily early and late in the year, it is easier to get into the practices than during the middle of the year when the demand is higher. But do keep trying. I'm not trying to discourage you. Merely pointing out that you'll likely get higher quality help/seat time on Sundays, and that you should take advantage of the talent that is there on those days and can help. While seat time is good to have, you may end up spending all day driving without a lot of improvement. So, ultimately my advice is, get as much seat time as you can afford, but reach out in advance to see if there are people who can help you on Saturday if you get in.

And on Sunday, get an instructor run, do your three competition runs, then get some x-runs and work with someone who is available to help better the times you set during your competition runs. There are enough events left this year to get fully prepped for next year's points battle. :)

Is this full already? We have a few from SFR that would like to come down for some practice time before nationals.

There are 92 applicants at this time. However, Nationals entrants have high priority for this practice, even out of region people. Wouldn't hurt to put their names in, I'd expect Sebastian will likely do the list this weekend.

Sebastian,
I really appreciate your getting me into the practice, however my boss told me he wants me back in WDC all of that week. Rather than show up at the practice after a redeye, I would rather vacate the spot so you can give it to someone who will truely enjoy and get the most out of it. Thank you again for giving me the spot, would love to run, but think it's best to bow out now.

Thanks

Hi Seb,

I'm very sorry but I'm going to have to cancel and which also means that the chief of tech position will be open as well. I think I've got too much on my plate... more than I can handle for now :(

Just got back from Scotland so I missed getting in on this.
That waiting list looks pretty long. :(

Cam- Traditionally this is the single most difficult practice event to get into. After this event, probably 2/3rds of the entrants will be making the long haul out to Lincoln, NE for Nationals. With El Toro's surface being a good sub for Lincoln's, we offer a few spots to our AZ and San Diego friends going to Nationals too. Its one of the best test n tune preps in the country.

Entry and waitlist are updated. Indeed, you are now #1. No guarantees, but I'd say you've got a good chance.
