Looking for a good, reasonably priced machine shop for really low volume CNC AL brackets and such. I can make drawings but would prefer to just send over CAD (STL, whatever is needed) files. Doesn't necessarily have to be local but that would be preferable.

You might talk to Mark DeShon. IIRC, he's a CNC machinist by trade. I'm not sure if his shop does one-off projects, but he could probably steer you in the right direction.

Are you looking to have parts made straight off the solid model files, or you expecting the shop to have the same software (AutoCad, Solidworks, Pro-E, etc)? If the parts are relatively simple geometry you're probably better off to produce drawings. I'd guess an .IGES file can be read by most CAD software. No clue as to translation accuracy. .STEP files are mostly used for direct download to machine tools and CMM's. STL is a stereolithography file used for reproducing a resin image of the part. I've been away from this stuff for a while so I'm claiming ignorance as to the current protocols.

The company I work for has suppliers that do some really remarkable machine work. Let me know if you'd like some names.
