January Practice Entry List

The actual list will be posted in this thread shortly. In the meantime, I wanted to let everyone know about a special activity specific to Saturday. CalClub is hosting the Porterfield Brakes National/Double Regional this same weekend at AutoClub and has invited the solo cars to participate in a parade lap in honor of Renee. This consists of a bunch of cars following the pace car around the roval as the flaggers each do the traditional F1 salute at each station.

The parade lap starts at 1pm. To participate, the solo cars need to be gridded by Garage 1 at 12:45 (see attached map). It will take a bit of time to get everyone lined up, so please do not be late. There will be people there to assist getting the cars gridded properly.

Once the parade lap is over, please hurry back to the solo lot and immediately either put your car in grid or report for work, as appropriate. This is an excellent opportunity to honor Renee and show our appreciation for Renee's involvement in bith sides of the region's SCCA activities.

Is there any reason one couldn't participate in the parade lap when they're not registered for the practice?

Thanks for the update & map.

Is there a designated photography area / who do we talk with to get cleared to take photographs during the parade lap?

Good question. I can't think of one.

We will get that cleared at that time. If nothing else, the bridge area is good.

Typically you can shoot from the top of the Pit Stands and The Bridge. I'm hoping to shoot from an open car ... near the front of the line-up ... ideally right behind the two lead Honor Cars. Since we will have the Vette there that weekend, I would love to have someone with a convertible drive me. Photos from a few years ago when we got to do something like 5 laps!

Photos from top of the Pit Grand Stands:

Photo from Pit Lane ... but the Pit Lane will have the 1st Race Grid in it while we line up and exit near Garage 1:

View from The Bridge, South side ... probably the best place to get a shot with as many cars as possible in it:

HOW COOL!!!!!
Up to what speeds did they allow everyone to get up to?
I've worked on that course before the banks are pretty steep.

I'm sure for the Lap of Honor for Renee it will be pretty tame. When we got to do a bunch of laps a few years ago, it was pretty, brisk }:)

If you want to go fast ... there is a Roval Track Day next weekend. I think Jeff Stewart's going ... maybe you can get a ride. I think KJ got up to 128 in his RX8, after he took his wing off. ;)

Two questions.
Are we going to run juniors at lunch? I assume we'd miss the parade.
How young a passenger can I take on the parade lap?

I'm youth steward. If we aren't running at lunch I might not go. But if kids can run the parade lap, Robert might like to see the track, but them I wouldn't be there to be youth steward. I guess I could stay and send Robert to ride passenger with somebody else, but then he really wants to practice his new kart.... Dang... Too many decisions too early in the day.

Karts are running at lunch.

There should be plenty of time. We'll have our normal lunch and run the karts. The parade lap should take less than 15 minutes, once moving. For most, they will end their lunch period by lining up for the lap. Some of us will have to hurry over to join in. (The "lunch break" will be longer than normal, but with the number of entries we shouldn't have any scheduling or run time issues.)

I don't know the answer to "how young for a passenger?". This isn't a high speed lap by any stretch of the imagination. We can see when we get released.

I expect this to be a somber, fairly slow lap or two.

For the prospective June inside the oval solo practice I'll try to set up a 'Track Tour' parade lap like we did a few years back. No promises, but this parade lap well exceeded autox speeds.
