Course Setup for 4/14-15 Event

I need course setup help for the CASOC event at El Toro this April 14-15. We don't know yet for sure how early on Friday we'll get to start, but if possible, I'd like to get going before 2 p.m. Worst case, it'll probably 5 p.m. I'll post as soon as I hear definitively.

I have three exemptions for Friday setup and three for changeover on Saturday. In addition, George has said he'll spring for dinner at Knowlwoods for everyone who helps on Friday, regardless of whether they get one of the exemptions. Priority will go to those that can help on both days. The exemption means that if you help with course set up on Friday, you won't have to work on Saturday. If you help with course changeover on Saturday, you will be exempted from work on Sunday.

Friday
Bill Schenker
Davin Swanson
QV Dang

Saturday
Mako Koiwai
Bill Schenker
Davin Swanson

Wow! That was a lot easier than I though it'd be! All full (at least as far as exemptions go). John, it'll be good to see you back. Mako, I think you got Palero'd. If Bill has a last-minute job and can't make it, I'll hit you up. Unless you just want to stick around and help for the heck of it.

If Palero wants that GoPro gear, HE better Reconsider! :D ... oh, just an expression.

... did I mention we're considering giving you another run in the Z06? ;)

Kurt,

Since this is a test day before a PRO SOLO, can we please get a Pro-style start included with this course? If not the full-length run like our traditional Pro courses, can we at least remain straight until we make the shift to 2nd? These turns and kinks right off the start gear prevent us from doing any tuning or practice on our starting line technique.

Thank you!

These turns and kinks right off the start are required to prevent a launch advantage.

IIRC, sometime in the past few years, we put a long start chute, just for this purpose, and then put the lights after the kink at the end of the chute. This allowed you to practice a launch, or not, without it impacting your course time. That was most likely a practice, although I honestly don't recall.

For Sundays race one must have a kinky start, but Sat we can do what we like. I like KJ's suggestion

I'll keep it in mind for the practice. It'll depend on how much of and what parts of the facility we end up being able to use.

The new timers are so easy to set up, it would be possible to have 60ft times. One timer from stage to 60ft with display at the end, second one could start a little after that, maybe around a turn. Just trying to keep the CASOC tradition of doing things different. ;)

It looks like a spot has opened up for switchover on Sun. Mako, are you still interested? No word yet on how early we'll be able to begin setting up, but as soon as I hear something I'll post.

I was planning on stopping by to set up the lights, but looks like rain on Friday now.

Kurt, any word on starting time for setup? FYI, I will be able to bring my pickup so we'll have an easy way to cart cones around the course.

I just got an email from Mike saying about 3 p.m. is when they'll let us start setting up. The predicted rain has sort of screwed things up and AMCI might have to do the testing they planned to do tomorrow on Fri.

I've got my three exemptions lined up, but if you're going to be out and about, we'd love your help anyway. I believe George has agreed to buy dinner afterwards for those who set up, even if they didn't get an exemption.
