Everybody alright?

Just saw a rig fire on the 15 in Cajon pass. Looked like it could be a racer's rig, though I didn't recognize it. Motorhome was completely burnt to the chassis. Trailer was in tact. Hope it's not one of ours. I couldn't get over in time to find out, but I'm one of the only one of us in the Victor Valley area. If anyone needs anything, call me regardless of the hour. 760-713-4591. Feel free to spread my number around the other regions' boards as well.

P.S. Large rig. Semi-style, cab over motorhome type tow rig. (Not sure what the technical name is for that type of rig) and maybe a 25' enclosed trailer.

String of bad luck for Mark Smith and Dr. Connie Smith.
They broke the rear engine dogbone mount Saturday afternoon.
Everything burned in the tow rig except for Mark's laptop and backpack.
The firemen were able to save a bottle of rum from the vehicle.
The trailer is safe.

Jeesh! I don't think I've had the pleasure of meeting Mark and Connie. But I'm wondering if they are the folks that were pitted almost directly across from me and further down from Stan Kowalski's pit kind of right where we entered the paddock from the gate taxiway. Motorhome kind of a brown/bronze/gunmetal color with graphics and the BIG TRUCK front-end. They pulled out just ahead of me. Interestingly, they were in my neighborhood when it happened (Apple Valley/Victorville) but I had arrived home much earlier. Anyway, I'm glad everyone was safe and, hopefully insured.

Ed- I think you're thinking of Fred and Alexandra Zust's rig. Mark had a "toterhome" that towed an enclosed trailer. Pretty large rig. Older white paint. They were parked in the middle about 4 spaces closer to grid than we were parked.

Ahh...got it. Have not met them. But I certainly remember their VW posted above. So...do they have a place to stay? Are they headed home? What's been done to get their trailer home?

As of 9pm tonight the toterhome has been stripped of all useful parts, and they are on their way to Colorado with the trailer in tow. Mark assured me that he will only drive as long as he deems safe(on two/three hours sleep), will get a hotel, and finish the trip tomorrow.
