Like the title says...I am trying to find a set of Dunlop Star Specs 255/40-17 and Tirerack is out of stock till the end of next month. Hoping to get new tires for Divisionals!

Thanks for the help,
Tristan

I recently got 255-35-18 star specs for my street Bimmer and all the West Coast warehouses were picked clean. Had to order from TireRack, and the Indiana warehouse at that. Anybody know what the StarSpec story is? That was two months ago, and now even TireRack is out of many sizes?

They have increased $40+ over the last year or two... Grrr R-comps are starting to looking like a viable opinion almost.

They're probably trying to get rid of them before they release the Z2s.

Edit: Z2 Japanese website: http://tyre.dunlop.co.jp/tyre/lineup/pa ... irezza/z2/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Have you considered the 245/40/17's How about the R-S3's?

If they have it in your size, you want the RS-3s. They're a little trickier to drive but once you learn them (loss of grip is not as progressive as the SS, but there's a lot more grip to be had) they're awesome. Plus, they're cheaper (by $4 a set, I think ;-))

A whole gaggle of STR drivers would seem to disagree ...

On my car, the RS-3 is faster. I've tested it back to back twice. BTW, the other problem with the RS-3s is that they don't like cold. It takes me until my third run for them to come to temp, and sometimes by then, I've lost confidence in the grip and don't drive as fast as I could. Answer is to find a co-driver...thanks, Max! :gpower: :gpower:

Could be that at a certain point, heavier cars work better with the stiffer side walled SS. The SS is also very confidence inspiring with it's benign behavior at the limit
