Quick question for "those who know":

I understand that oil catch cans are allowed in Stock class, but would an air/oil separator be allowed (as an OCC)?

I am eyeing this unit from Crawford Performance (pricey though...):

The system plumbing is the same as a Stock legas OCC. Closed system.

yes, as long as it stays a closed system it is okay.

If I was a protest dick I would throw paper on that in a heartbeat (unless there's a specific mention of air/oil separator in a FastTrack). Its not a catch tank, its an air/oil separator and does confer a performance advantage (less oil in the intake). Be ready to defend it at a NT or the Nationals.

G. The installation of water expansion tanks is allowed. The installation of oil catch tanks is allowed provided the PCV system is not altered.

The rule book specifically allows you to install an oil catch tank as long as you keep the system as it was. Closed.

Again, check to see if any protest dicks are running in class Sean (they do exist in the Solo world). Be ready to back up your mod.

Anyone have any tips on sending in such requests? Maybe I should ask Crawford for a plumbing diagram.
Senseless work for no performance gain and a lighter wallet!! I guess this is the norm for running in a "real" class...

To get a ruling on this would I need to submit a letter to the SEB?

If no performance gain why would you want to install it?

some cars consume an excess amount of oil from autocross. I know my civic used to gobble up a lot of oil during a run (at the right oil level) and smoke would poor out the back. Seb Rio's car does it on the regular nowadays.

Mine is known for the oil vapor building up on the valves. Detergents run thru the fuel system aren't effective since it's direct injection. OCC is the only solution.

But a catch-can would help with that, correct? Why would you spend more money on an air-oil separator if it only did the exact same thing?

Because race car! LOL

It seems that their A/O separator unit is a bit more efficient and doesn't require any maintenance.
Also, they have a turn-key for the FR-S with all the mounting hardware.

Currently no OCC's out there offer such a turn-key kit other than Cusco and their unit is not baffled (supposedly if not baffled then meaningless).

The WRX comes with one from the factory! It's called an intercooler :barf:
