I've ordered a full face automotive helmet but the order was drop shipped and will not arrive till next week. I do however have a new DOT motorcycle helmet. I know the event says snell 95 or newer. I'm guessing the DOT moto helmet will not be aloud for use but I'm asking anyways just to make sure, so could I use the helmet?

Hey Kyle,

No, DOT certification isn't enough. We have loaners.

Ok, I knew there were loaner helmets but I just didn't like the idea of my head being in a helmet someone else has.

Kyle, Bob is right: DOT isn't enough. Is the Motorcycle helmet Snell rated as well though? We don't require SA-rated helmets.

True, even if it's a motorcycle helmet, if it's Snell 95, that's good. Thing to look for is a rectangular decal inside and affixed to the energy foam, probably under the fabric liner.

From what I've read the only rule is a Snell 95 or newer.
What I've read it even said Motorcycle helmets were fine.

I plan to have my GF wearing her sons Snell 2000 Moto helmet on Sat.

Exactly. A legal helmet is Snell 95 or newer, SA, M or K rated. [SA=fire-retardant liner; M=motorcycle; K=Kart]

Oddly enough, there are FIA approved helmets used in F1 and other series that aren't SCCA legal, but only because the companies don't sell them here and therefore don't submit them to Snell testing.

Kyle, I have a clean head sock you can use, to keep you from having to come in contact with one of those nastified loaners. I'm driving the white Infiniti G35 sedan #333. Just come find me and I'll lend it to you.
