What kind of safety equipment do they require on the S2000s?
Edit: Ah, the link says factory roll protection is sufficient.

Let me know what you guys decide. If we can get a group of four, they'll throw in transponders at no charge. I noticed Tom Barrett is already signed up. As a friend of ours, I assume he wouldn't mind being part of the four.

Driving in circles at high speeds can be dangerous, ESPECIALLY at Horse Thief Mile. That is one dangerous looking track.

Quit posting pictures like this. We already know how dangerous it can be. Almost every driver I know that autocrosses have the skills and smarts to stay out of trouble. Go have fun.

Far as I know, I hold the track record at Horse Thief Mile. It's simple, look where you want to go.

horse thief could be dangerous if you busted a tie rod or if there were 12-15 idiots on the track.. streets and horse are nothing compared to big willow as far as danger goes.. horse is such low speeds and not many places to pass because its so tight
i will decide tomorrow if im in for the streets

Looks like there's still plenty of room. I don't know if you guys noticed, but groups of four get free timing. George Jeff, Theo, Steve and Greg have posted here indicating at least a passing interest. Tom Barrett is already signed up. Three more makes four. I'm going, so that leaves two. Who will step up and make the sacrafice to take a day off and have a day of fun at Streets. BTW, lunch is included.

Thanks for noticing, yes I am going and if it helps get a deal please include me.
This is a good group to run with and I recommend them.
Phil has a good customer service attittude and the events are well run.

The only bad place to go off is the chicane or s's, just get the braking done early and it should not be an issue. Work up to the limit if you want or stay well below it and you should have no issues.
Just takes a little common sense to be safe.

I've only done it once and it was Big Willow (with BMWCCA) which has sections that are mind-numbingly boring to extreme terror (Turn 8 leading into Turn 9). You go off in 9, and you might as well start saying your prayers. Drive within your limits (kinda like the economy...live below your means or at). Never done SOW or HTM.

The prospect of going off coming down from the Balcony and into the 90-degree left at Big Willow is scary; 8-9 requires an early commitment to speed and line, but at least the runoff is flat. It's one of those "don't lift" combos where fear is the enemy.

Actually after hearing SO much about Turn 9, it was the Balcony section that concerned me once I was actually on track. Turn 9 was much calmer for me as I drove within my limits.

Funny thing about Streets and the big track is they both have downhill sections leading into 90-degree left-handers: the chicane along the back straight on Streets and the section into Turn 6 on the big track.
I've got a lot of laps on Streets and I still love it. I don't have much time on the big track and none in my own car, so I'd really like to spend more time there. Just need make my car even less competitive in CSP and not competitive in Prep or Mod.

George I can't go. Self Employed keeps me at work. I quit posting track days on this forum, because nobody wanted to go. Always some kind of excuse. Mostly to dangerous, to fast, car will overheat, bad tires. brakes will fade, on and on they go. Have a great time.

I don't enter 9 as fast as I could, so that I have a comfort margin powering through and out.
Driving down the hill after the Bud complex just terrifies me.... Especially after I learned the Bud complex properly and learned how much speed you could carry into the downhill section. Can I have an exhaust brake installed on my race car??? I'm a sad sack around big willow in an agressively setup autocross neon with blown shocks.

I only made that point relative to the popular opinion about Turn 9.

See, that's the thing. I've only gotten that section right a couple of times but knew that coming off the Balcony and getting it wrong would be bad. Running off a section of downhill, with an off camber corner entry that will put the car into the continuing downhill section of dirt is much more daunting to me. Then again, staying flat through the back straight chicane on the Streets and making the left-hander that follows is really cool. Certain anatomical features retreat into the abdominal cavity in the process, but it's still a great thrill. Someday, I hope to make Turn 6 on the big track just as much fun.
