NA Miata 1.8 Motor Rebuilds, used FS?

Am researching my options.

No worries, my car seems fine, this is just research.

Who has a good reputation for 1.8 Miata engine rebuilds?
And at what price range are we talking?

Also, does anyone know of any used 1.8 motors FS that I could send for a ebuild by chance?

----------------------
FYI, I called the N. Hollywood Sport Import guy today and he quoted $1800 installed for a used motor and $2500 to rebuild and re-install my own.

Pete...

A leak down test will tell you more about your engines condition than a compression test.

What year you looking for? I think I know a guy who can let go of a health '95 motor for something north/south of $400

I hope everything checks out well. Your already giving the rest of us the smack down... don't need you in a new motor also.

Hey, your guy wouldn't happen to have another one huh? Or anyone else out there?

I'm looking for a '94 or '95 motor. Cheap is good and it only has to be salvageable, as I'm looking to do a slow, long term build on one.

Thanks Toby. Wasn't prepared for a leak down back when I posted.
Am now.

My current motor, cold leak down, cylinders were all below 10%, Still need to do a warm one.
Can't believe its' still going so strong at 205K miles.

The motor I bought(Thanks to Sean/Bill Wilner) to build has the cams out, intake off, so doing the leak down is easy.
It's pretty healthy except for one exhaust valve leaks more than the others.

Less than 10% on a cold engine is very good, those numbers should go down slightly if the engine was hot. Routine leak down tests are a good way to track your engines condition along with oil analysis.
