Just looking for new shocks and this name came up. I haven't bought any in 4 years so my shock knowledge is a bit dated.

I know Toby is strongly considering a set, but he doesn't have them yet.

I'll be getting a set of DA JRi struts next month, should be able to give you feedback in March if you have time to wait.

They lasted for 24 hours at Daytona and finished third.

I need shocks on my c5z, so these may be the ones, or Penske's. I know over the years Penske/Koni has been the Vette shock but times change.

Don't like Koni's that much.

Well, the Penskes are tried and true, right?

It's always a bit of a gamble trying something new or different but the JRi's are priced well and all the tech stuff I've read sounds promising.

The great thing about Penskes ... our own Guy Ankeny. Had a leak, took it over to Guys, rebuilt it right then and there: $50

So, let me get this straight. If I sell my Miata AND add $1500 or so, I can purchase these shocks. Guess I won't be running with the Big Dogs anytime soon...or ever.

Guy is who will be doing the custom strut housings with JRi internals for me. It was actually his suggestion since Penske struts are out of my budget ($10-$12K).

BTW you probably shouldn't advertise how much Guy is charging you because he likes you/done lots of work for you previously. I run in to this a lot in my own business when I do discounted work for various reasons and then other people expect to pay those prices. Just know that Guy will always do the job right with great follow up service for a fair price

Looking at SS results at the Nationals this last year, I see at least 4 of the top 5 finishing cars were on Konis (not sure what is on that silly German car, so might be 5 of 5). Now, I agree Konis, like anything else, have some drawbacks, but hard to argue they don't work well. The 2 top Corvettes were on Koni singles, BTW.

Yup, Guy's special price for Karen was more of a special follow up price. After all she bought a set of (expensive!) double adjustable Penske's from Guy and has two sets of Penske's fully rebuilt by him. That quick special was not for a "real" rebuild, ie. with new parts, but simply tightening something up I think that did require taking some of it apart.

Thanks Gary, I had the single adj Koni for a while when they first released. They worked, but it frustrated the heck out of me when I would go full "minus" to count the sweeps and they would get stuck there. I broke several "tools" off trying to move the adjuster off the stuck position. Drove me nuts. Then there was the rubber bushing that would push out of place. I'd have to send it back to Koni to get it fixed every so often. Just too many "idiosyncracies" for me to put up with.

Come to SD when I get the JRI's on and drive my car (on a6), love to get your input. I'm at every practice & champ.

i'm no expert, but aren't you supposed to count turns from full stiff?

Could be, maybe depends on the shock, maybe doesn't matter.

In any event, back on my point, they would stick jast as hard on full stiff.

Equally bad engineering, or their vendor quality control, or their assembly, zero difference to me as the end user.

Since I figure you might be interested in this, just from technical perspective, the ones I got adjust the rebound from full soft (neg. sign) and the bump from full hard (the pos. sign).
