2015 Classes

Just a reminder about the changes for 2015, Nationally and locally.

No more combined Street classes (S1, S2, S3), all SCCA National Street classes are offered individually, i.e., SS AS BS CS DS ES FS GS HS which must run on 200+ treadwear tires and SSR, Super Stock cars on R-Tires. No more STC, check the National Rules to see where the ST cars all go now. B Prepared is gone. We will continue to combine all Street Prepared, Modified and Prepared into indexed classes.

There are now 3 Classic American Muscle classes:
CAM-T =Traditional CAM cars 1954-72, 108” wheelbase, 3000lbs minimum
CAM-C= Contemporary CAM cars 1978 and newer, 100” wheelbase, 3000lbs minimum
CAM-S= Sports CAM cars 2 seats, 90” wheelbase, 2600lbs minimum

Please note when registering online and selecting your class, there are two drop down menus CLASS and PAX. Select the local class you wish to run in first, including indexed classes denoted by (Indexed) after the class name. These include PAX, HST1, HST2, SP, M, P, NOV, and TO. If the class you chose indicated indexed, then you must also choose the correct base class from the PAX menu. Do not select anything in the PAX menu unless you have chosen an indexed class. There are always several people who insist on selecting the same class in both, such and CST and CST.

I noticed that, too. I just copied the info from a letter by Brian Harmer, Rally/Solo Program Manager. The draft of the 2015 Solo Rules matches.

No worries......there were no muscle cars during those years. In the early 70's the government began mandating low lead fuel. Combine that with the oil embargo by OPEC and new government safety mandates, we were left with a bunch of ugly, gutless cars. The muscle cars disappeared entirely. The 70's was the lost decade of American muscle.

I guess that rules out the Pinto and the Vega...

Ron's car just needs an interior and some 200w tires. And a few hundred pounds of ballast...

Hey, are there engine rules in this class?
Could you build a Corvair with a mid-mounted Subaru 2.5 turbo motor? Or does it have to be 'murican? I suppose a fwd LNF would work ok too...

Sorry...wasn't aware the CAM classes were showroom stock. :)

I was refuting your claim that there were no candidate cars in the "not allowed" listings.
But I won't argue the "ugly" part.

So, no corvair...

But a 4wd pick-up is ok?

I see the rules actually state "body styles originating from" XXXX. As opposed to CAM T = 1954 to 72 as was originally stated. Odd way of doing things, but that must at least partially close that "not allowed" gap. I wonder why they just didn't say CAM C picks up where CAM T leaves off?

CAM-S looks like it was built around the Cobra. The Lexan rule sounds like it came about from the "racecar" C2 corvette that did well at nats. Both cars were under the 2014 3,000 lb limit, also read the C2 runs 9's in the 1/4. Now the weight limit was dropped 400 lbs to accommodate those cars, too bad for those building to last year's rules.

These guys get paid by the word?

Maybe they felt they used unrestricted too many times already.

CAM-T (Traditional) (body styles originating from 1954-72)
• Examples: Camaro (-1981), Mustang (-1973), Barracuda (-1974)

The Pinto, Vega, Capri all meet the pre '72 body style rule... but fall short of the wheelbase requirement

The Mustang II doesn't meet the year requirement, or the wheelbase requirement...

I'm curious what specific car they aimed the rule at to exclude...

Is there an active regional CAM class here? I saw San Deigo has a pretty active class but when I look at the 2014 event results on this forum I didn't see CAM listed?

Thanks

We have it, just no one participates in it. I have 91' Camaro and when I run it I usually run CST. I ran CAM once and won. The other guy never came back.

There can't be a class till the 1st person shows up, and then the second etc, etc.

It's kinda like the Muscle car itself... a few existed before, but it took the Mustang showing up on the scene to start the craze.

Be the impetus to start the class here.

Thanks for the replies. I've done a few autocross events with my 68 Camaro and though an actual SCCA event might be fun. I will try and make it out. Sadly I'm already booked on the Jan and Feb dates.

Hi Arthur,
C1-C3 corvettes and Cobras are included in CAM-S.
Although, IMO CAM-S should be C4-C7, Vipers and Cobras. And C1-C3 corvettes should be in CAM-T.

I have a C3 vette but I thought I should be in Street Prepared (new headers). Should I change to CAM-S?

Is there really a difference between classes? My first event so Im not sure if its super important to be in a certain class her not.

Street Prepared will allow more modifications that Cam.

Street Prepared allows Race tires, CAM requires Street tires.

If you intend any upgrades to your car in the next year.... look at the rules figure out which class you will remain legal in the longest, even if not fully prepared today. Go run there, then change down the road if or when you need to.

Most people plan class changes between seasons so that they can spend a full year competing towards that year end trophy.
