Just in case you are thinking of getting involved with one more activity to share with your kids and burn "your" tire budget, where do you start?

Buying a kart is easy. This is the time of year they hit the market, hard. Kid's move up, kid's parents find they are no longer being used or any number of "it's a racecar issues and it's got to go.

First, It's a race car. Yes, little in size but they spend your money just like a race car is going to do, every time you touch it. And you are going to get physical with the thing. Ever wondered how they get from those trailers to the stands. "We" park together for a reason. Ok, lots of them.

First is the collective, knowledge and experience. The first time you have returned the broken or bent Kart to your trailer and have that "I guess we are done for the weekend" look on your face someone is going to walk over and point you in the direction of getting it fixed. In the first five events of our son's new driving experience we, our weekends have been saved, four times. Yes, some of it has been handed to us and some we have paid for. The reality is the community steps up and helps.

Now, were do you find and buy stuff? I'll start.

Finding a shop that has a large selection of product on the shelve and a staff that can work you through the fitting process was priceless. Your child will listen and work with the staff just like they believe their teachers, we as the parent's know nothing. But I did learn that the shell is the key. The internal padding can be replaced to cover the growth of your child. Be aware, your child will pick the "most" expensive starting point. Just like fine wine in the store the great stuff in on the top shelf.

In our case this was the best thing I could have done to get started. Kimball was great with our son, fitting him to the kart and giving the kart a once over before we fired it up at an event.
Money well spent,

Empire is right around the corner from my office. This shop has become my "go to" for stuff and parts that you will find are universal in the world of karts. The stuff include fluids and lubricants that the collective just helps you with as you get started. Chain lube just does not stay were you spray it for very long. An example, the rod, from the brake pedal to the master cylinder, is going to get replaced as your child gets taller. I am adding to the collection of spare pars that came to us with our kart, when he out grows the cadet seat it will find that same container.

OK, who balances the motors, were do I find the jets to tune the carb, where did you find the safety gear, how much does a FJB kart have to weigh.....?
