[SOLD]: 2006 Mazda MX-5 CSP National Champion

SOLD
2006 Mazda MX-5 Sport
25k miles
Galaxy gray, black cloth interior, 6spd

This car has allowed me to recently complete a long-term goal of mine, winning a CSP National Championship. The car's amazing but I've begun to realize that a large portion of the fun for me was in the challenge of the build. The cost to build far exceeds the sales price and it comes with all the tuning details learned throughout the year.

SOLD!!

Calling KJ.... Are you sure you can't fit in an NC??? You could always gain more room with race seats...

Cool car, great class, and you get laugh at Bill Schenker while he's working on his car at 2:30am....

Quick question Brian-- What is the car's weight?

Regarding fitment, the smaller 320mm steering wheel goes a long way to create more knee/leg room for bigger drivers. The NC's also have tilt unlike the earlier cars. Throw in a low race seat and I'd expect nearly anybody to fit in the car.

The car came in at 2370 on HPT's scales with a couple gallons of fuel in it.

BTW, forgot to mention in the ad, but the car's in Phoenix, AZ.

Gezz Brian, just when I was starting to think of you as Not-a-car-slut.

Now that I think about it, my last two race cars came from the phoenix area (Dakota and Neon).

Can this fabulous car be licensed in CA, or will it have to be a Trailer Queen in it's current guise?

Mako, I honestly have no clue what the CARB status is on most of the parts. The stock exhaust manifold went straight into a cat (was removed with the header installation), but even going from the 2 factory cats down to the one high flow, the car's running clean enough to keep the ECU perfectly happy.

Maybe check with Goodwin though, as he's running a lot of the same parts and I know his car's still street driven. If you guys have registration renewal every two years, it wouldn't be too much work to swap back to stock components as necessary.

It's a good thing this car isn't white...

Max ... how about following in the footsteps of Brian. Forget the STU STI and get a proper RWD car. It would nicely take the place of that SS Z-06 co-drive that fell thru. :king:

Being a non-cali car brought in does it matter? Last two Az cars I brought (mentioned already :-)) just required a federal parts inspection and a blow test.

Would it even need to be smogged being a newer modle year?

I need to sell the Subaru first before I think about buying anything else. Also, I don't like the idea of a 'SP' car when I don't own a truck/trailer. Mind you, if I was going to buy a 'SP' car, this is the one I would buy. I know Brian and his codriver Jay, and this car has been meticulously maintained and looked after.

Again, I don't know what your guys smog requirements are, but thought even patrol officers can hassle over non-carb-approved mods merely on a visual basis. In AZ, all newer cars are only required to have an OBD scan.

Max, thanks for the compliments. It's funny you mention trailer though, as I'd personally be a lot more concerned with the durability of an AWD, 3 driver, hard launched car like your STI. I think Mako's right though, it's time for you to move on to real tires. ;)

What speed is the top of second in one of those things?

Aaron, with the 285s it's close to the STI, at about 53-54 mph. Also like the STI it has a very usable 3rd though and it's typically not a problem having to shift. Keep in mind this is with the stock rev-limiter at 6800 rpm. I've talked with the guys at MER (MX-5 Cup champions) and they feel the motor could easily spin to 7400 or so for solo use. Last time I checked with the guys at Sniper, they were close to unlocking the rev-limiter.

There's no debate though, the NC needs the acceleration of the 6spd for CSP. SM2 would be a different story.

I had to smog my almost new Boxster S before I could get it licensed, so yeah, it would need to get smogged.

Ron Bauer is also selling his CSP MX-5, so if you prefer dark pearl blue vs. dark pearl gray, you have choices! :)

If KJ and I each bought a Miata, forget autocross...it'd be really entertaining just to see which one of us could get into the damned thing first and what kind of humorous contortions would be involved.

Gotta do old le mans style starts for the runs.

More room in the Meeotter than the S2K. I'm proud to say I fit in both now :D

Easily solved in CSP
15.10.P Any mechanical shift linkage may be used.

CSP cars.

You can lower the seat, thin the seat, move the seat back, thin the back, shrink the steering wheel, change the shifter...

With enough work we could probably fit our DSS into one.

stop tempting me....

I'm trying to get rid of cars, not add more. but the thought of being able to drive with my head upright and being able to look left is appealing.

The tachs in 3's must be way off. My 2-liter rental 3 hit its rev-limiter at 7200 rpm indicated (IIRC, as that was 2005), and our 2.3 at 7000 rpm. Redlines are a bit lower.
