Exciting Pro Solo News

Post by Tom Berry »

Another reason to run the Pro Solo!
Kumho Tires is adding to their contingency program for our Pro. In addition to the normal top 3 places pay out, they are awarding a SET of tires.... yes as in 4 tires for the top finishing Kumho shod car car in every recognized SCCA class at our event. Doesn't matter what your finishing position is, as long as you are the fasted Kumho car in your class. Kumho is jumping back into the national SCCA Solo program in a big way and want to spread the word ( and salt the mine, so to speak ). So if you have not signed up for it yet.... grab you Kumhos and come play with us.
A couple items here:
1) Only SCCA classes... sorry, SK1 and SK2 do not qualify
2) Gotta run Kumhos for the whole event.
3) You need to register with Kumho before the event.
4) Need to put the proper decals on you ride. One on the front bumper and one on each fender.
5) Within 30 days of the event, you have to submit results and a photo of the car with decals at the event.
6) Sorry, only one set of tires per class/driver.
More info will be posted soon here... so stay tuned. But dont forget to sign up for the event before friday afternoon when the price goes up. We can thank our own Brian " Fireball " Robertson for this deal.
See you at the Pro !!

Now:

Michael Wood, I have that 5th FS entry (1998 Cobra) sitting in my yard with a set of V710's (really old---cooked). What are you all running----if everyone is running A6's DFL is worth about a grand...

Highly unlikely that AS will have enough for a class. What happens?

I'd be more than happy to co-drive with someone in AS to help make a class!

Tom, thanks for the wonderful news! Great to see Kumho supporting Solo again! Now if only that "other" Korean tire maker would wake up and get more involved with Solo...

Steve, Because the Pro Solo format calls for bumping when a class does not have 5 entrants, this will not be an issue.
In your case.... if you are not able to talk enough folks into the class, you will get bumped to "Bump1" and that will be your "class" for the weekend. If by chance there are not 5 in Bump1, then Bump1 gets combined with Bump2.
The bottom line if you get "bumped", is that you will need to be the top finishing Kumho shod car in the bump class to win the set of tires.
As a side note! Brian has told me that if you win a "set" of tires, that it can be "any set". Need tires for you street car or truck?? no problem! Personally, I think thats cool 'cause my tow vehicle could use some new shoes.

Three drivers in Tom's Evo on Hoosiers could potentially win 15 tires in one event....

if you can change tires REALLY fast.. though I think contingency is checked in impound so it'd be whatever the second driver ran.

interesting. Im glad Kumho wants back in Solo action. They have not changed their Contingency listed on http://www.scca.com" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;.

I emailed Charles Van Huesden, hopefully he can confirm. If so, Kumho is a good option for Pro-Solo as my car can destroy 4 Hoosiers in 1 pro.
