ProSolo Photos ... El Toro
First shots up ... showing how late the event went. I believe Marshall and a Mini driver get a re-run tomorrow morning after they finally had to call it.

Re: ProSolo Photos ... El Toro
Saturday's shots uploading now. Sorry, didn't come out today ... couldn't justify it after shooting over 1,500 shots yesterday. I think I got everyone except for Charley Hoyt, who SPECIFICALLY asked me to shoot him!
Charley ... SORRY, I didn't realize you ran RIGHT after lunch ... and we didn't get back onto course until the first few cars had completely their runs (and we only arrived after your morning runs) ... also missed getting decent shots on the course of my friend Andrew B !

LOL, actually we got to run together today! It was really fun running against Randy Chase & Steve O. (he instructed me back at one of the Solo schools when my car was stock & black), but it was REALLY fun running against someone I was evenly matched withMako Koiwai wrote:You should have arranged to have lined up with your buddy! Time to decide which photos I want to get.

Re: ProSolo Photos ... El Toro
Here are a majority of mine. I didn't really get a chance to shoot much that weekend, but I'm glad I had a chance to shoot on Sunday morning. There was beautiful light breaking through the clouds.
I'll have all of them up shortly along with the SD Nat'l tour photos

Re: ProSolo Photos ... El Toro
Interesting dark dramatic look ... seems like the drivers might like to see themselves though?

Why use a pic where it looks like you're behind... If I were to put a pic on a check I'd use this oneMako Koiwai wrote:Here is what Karen did with one of her ProSolo photos:

Re: ProSolo Photos ... El Toro
i shot all my pictures on sunday at +2/3 stop so that i can capture a bit more of the detail and be able to drop it down in PP.
course, the pictures that my computer (at home) is currently churning out don't have any PP done, so will probably all look blown out.. we'll see when i get home.

Re: ProSolo Photos ... El Toro
Plusing the exposure? Digital is like transparency film ... what is overexposed is gone ... once it's white+. I typically under expose 1/3rd stop ... so that I make sure I don't lose any detail ... and then lift the exposure in PS.
Of course shooting in RAW gives you so much latitude.
What'sPP ?
The new cameras have options for better high light compression ... looking forward to that.

Re: ProSolo Photos ... El Toro
Jeff ... so shouldn't you be doing exposure corrections before batch processing the RAWs to Jpg?

I think he got tired of doing that and just said "screw it" post them all and go back and fix some later.Mako Koiwai wrote:Jeff ... so shouldn't you be doing exposure corrections before batch processing the RAWs to Jpg?

Re: ProSolo Photos ... El Toro
Yeah ... but ... once they're jpegs + overexposed ... you can't correct as much. But he can always go back to the RAW files for some choice shots.
Re: ProSolo Photos ... El Toro
all the raws are on the computer.. it's all on lightroom, which, for some retarded reason, does not have a batch process -where you can resize-.. i can do batch adjustment outputted to full size jpgs, with each file being 5 megs.. >_<
and i always expose to the right. digital photo isn't the same as film, a full 1/2 of the information is stored in the first stop of the picture, and then it exponentially decreases from there. so by overexposing, as long as you don't get blown highlights, you actually retain the most available information.
expose to the right.
i'll be able to post up the pictures tonight, and then start selectively PP'ing some of them.

i'm thinking i'd consider race cars as "moving objects". }:)Jeff's expose to the right link wrote:Also be aware though that by doing this you are in fact effectively lowering the ISO used to capture the image, requiring slower shutter speeds and/or larger apertures. If you are hand-holding the camera, or shooting moving objects, the tradeoff may not be worth the reduced noise level.

you'd be suprised how "slow" cars are after you're used to panning at bird speed.Marshall Grice wrote:i'm thinking i'd consider race cars as "moving objects". }:)Jeff's expose to the right link wrote:Also be aware though that by doing this you are in fact effectively lowering the ISO used to capture the image, requiring slower shutter speeds and/or larger apertures. a red tail hawk swooping down on a gopher is a "moving object"..

Re: ProSolo Photos ... El Toro
Mako, I like the driver's faces but if you look at the front bumper of Ken's car, it looks like a bad paper scan. Yeah, I know a lot of that is due to processing a JPG, but still. Given the images shown, I'd probably settle for somewhere in between.
Jeff, that makes sense to expose to the right. As with audio analog to digital conversion, half the signal strength has half the resolution (one bit less, actually). It would make the most sense that the perfect exposure is one where the brightest single pixel was at full-white. The RAW image wouldn't be good for direct viewing but would contain the most information to be used for processing to the output device - printer, screen, etc.
I'd figure that digital cameras have the ability to get pretty close since they're already processing a preview image on the fly. Hmmm, is that a limitaion on DSLR's vs non-SLRs since the main sensor is not being exposed during shot composure?

Re: ProSolo Photos ... El Toro
Yeah ... as long as you keep an eye on the over exposure ... which I find with car finishes is never to far away. OTOH ... over exposure helps so one can see the driver.
Do a seperate batch process in PS to size your files ?
