Good-bye (in a little while, anyway)

Post by Bill Schenker »

So, I guess it's official; I'll be moving to the NYC area sometime by the end of October. My G.F., Talya, has taken a position w/Cerberus Real Estate.

The fact that she can make more money in one month then I can make in a year and a half (and the way THIS year has gone, maybe TWO years) has NOTHING to do with my moving; I have ALWAYS loved racing on tiny little lots, on bad surfaces, in first gear, 30 secs. at a time and look forward to AXing in the NYC area

I'll finish out the year here by flying back and forth, and then either leave the car here and come out for our pre-national event regional race before running in next year's S.D.R. Tour and CSCC Pro, or take it back to NY after the Dec. race and use the off season ('til Apr.) to upgrade the car.

I "grew up" in AX here and will miss California and every one of my friends and fellow competitors  We'll try and move back here as soon as we can (maybe two years?) and visit whenever we can.

Take care, and thank you again to all; I will truly miss all my friends and this place.

Bill, I used to live in upstate New York and let me tell you its actually a great place to autocross. The short season plus the fact that New York has about ten different SCCA regions all with their own solo programs means basically you can autocross every weekend from April to October. You can go to events where there are 40 drivers and get 10-15 runs. You can go to bigger regions like Finger Lakes and have events very similar to CSCC. I ran in grocery store parking lots making multiple laps in a run, go-cart tracks with 5' tall weeds lining the course, airport runways with perfect concrete, and a great lot in Rochester that rivaled Qualcom. You'll have a great time there.

Bill,

How sad. We will miss you! :(

It should be fun to live in New York for a couple of years. There is so much to do in NYC.

Bill -
Sad news for CSCC - I appreciate the time you have taken to show me some of the ropes, especially as SSS.
Good luck

Good think you just finished packing up all your stuff from the apartment. Now there's no need to unpack!

Bill, ya gotta come back a couple times during the year so we have someone good to pick on. ;)

Good luck, Bill, and we'll look forward to seeing you when you come visit. On a related note, we're now taking applications for outspoken, rabid Tifosi we can skewer when Ferrari's engines go KER-BLAMMO!

If you start getting harassed on the NY autocross message board by someone named sebar6969, it's not me. }:)

Good luck, try not to pick up the accent.

He will not leave this board. He just may actually have more free time. Careful what you wish for. :computer: :) :)

I just got back from running an event in NYC. Surprisingly fast, but almost exclusively transitional elements, ie. jaywalkers, taxi's suddenly pulling over without warning, slow tourists, double parked cars. Our AX training Really Paid Off! Bill should do very well over there. :D

The problem is Bill will reach brain lock analyzing all the variables and whether to change transmissions or gear ratios... Then he'll breakdown in the Holland tunnel and snarl traffic for hours.
