Re: SMOG the results

Well, you have about 2 years until the next test ( how many miles is that?), so I would not worry about passing the next test yet. But for better performance/fuel economy, replacement of an old 02 sensor is always a good thing, especially with gas prices going up... If it is an original 136K mile se...

Re: SMOG the results

Congratulations! Your motor runs perfect, that's just how they are, not low on CO/HC but not too good on Nox, they tend to run lean. All numbers look good, the way they should be. Our 99 M3 with 59K smogged the same. BMW's just tend to have higher combustion temps, and produce higher Nox. e36's in pa...

Re: How to prep car to pass smog?

No, don't get the motor too hot, it will result in Nox going up and failing you. You want CAT to be hot, not the motor. Motor should be at normal operating temp.

How many miles on the CAT/ 02 sensor?

Thanks for your suggestions! I though hotel would be more expensive, but it is definitely worth it, especially for as low as $30-50.

Re: Who balances their autox tires

The problem with unbalanced tires is not only the wear, but that vibrations destroy wheel bearings and other suspension components. I imagine R comps or street tires that are only run at the autocross do not need to be balanced, unless it's a faster than usual autocross course ( track day, time tria...

Leaving the car overnight at Cal Speedway?

Hi everyone, We will be running both the practice and championship next weekend, so I was thinking of leaving one of our cars at the Cal Speedway overnight -- just so I don't have to put 150 extra miles on it and waste gas. Has anyone done this before? Is it safe to leave the car there? Thanks, Max

Need someone who can weld shock towers

I need to find someone with experience who can weld front shock towers, I have few small ( 2 inches long hairline cracks along original seam). Easily accessible from under the hood or the inside of the fender.

Any suggestions?

Thank you,
Max

Re: Staggered wheels in stock classes?

Ok, thanks. Yeah I just read the rules, the wheels are stock so I can offset them only 1/4 which is 5-6mm spacer. That should work with 7.5 inch wheel, 235 fits without spacer, so 245 won't need much. Thank you for your suggestions. For now running stock wheels, going to find a second set of stock w...

Re: Staggered wheels in stock classes?

Thank you everyone for your responses. Sounds like square 245/40 set is the way to go. Even if there are negative effects of running a fatter tire, nothing as bad as understeering heavy e36.
Gio, you ran spacers in the front, right? If yes, what size?

Thanks!

Re: Staggered wheels in stock classes?

I am concerned that the 245 tire will be too wide for 7.5 inch rim, since I have no camber it may flex too much and will defeat the purpose of the grip of the wider tire. I am thinking of putting 235 on 7.5's and keep 245's on 8.5 rim, that's almost square and front sidewall should not flex too much...

Re: Staggered wheels in stock classes?

Thanks for the reply! Sounds like I can change tire sizes as long as they fit ( ie put 235 instead of 225 in the front).

Thanks,
Max

Staggered wheels in stock classes?

I am looking for a set of wheels for my wife's BMW E36 M3-- we are thinking of running it in CS/ SK2. This car comes stock with staggered wheels: 17 x 7.5 in the front and 17 x 8.5 in the back ( 225/245). I want to put a square set of wheels/tires on it (255/40 sounds good) to get rid of (some of) t...

Re: Tire opinions

I've had Azenis,Z star Specs and RE-11's on stock ( or near stock ) E21/E30. Azenis are not good unless you have enough camber to keep them flat during cornering( shoulders will be gone before you know it) and they don't like heat. Azenis is going to overheat in one lap just because it's warmer that...

Re: Machine Shop in Orange County

Thank you everyone! I found Harbor Freight tools ( 3 jaw puller, slide hammer and FWD bearing tool), I'll buy them tomorrow and hopefully they will do it. If not I will take the arms off and then take them to JC's Alignment or Andersons. Thanks for your help!

Thanks,
Max

Machine Shop in Orange County

I am about to start on rear wheel bearing replacement on my BMW 325. I do not have a special BMW tool ( $300) and will try to use tools I have ( not many) The problem is that the bearing is inside the trailing arm and sometimes regular pullers don't work. I was thinking to take trailing arms/subfram...

Re: Kosei K1 TS question...

Most BMW wheels come in 5x120 are, at least they did for cars built in the 80's and the 90's. Offsets and center bore varies, especially from mid 90's on. You can find a set of good 5x120 15x7 ET20 BBS mesh wheels for $100- these are from 5, 6 and 7 series cars (up to 1995). Same with E36 wheels- sa...

Re: Truck Suggestions ...

If you will be looking for Fords this is my 0.2... 5.4 Fords do not much better geared than transmissions than 4.6's. However, they last forever, unlike smaller units on 4.6's which last only about 100K miles. Also later, (2004+ IIRC) 5.4 vans (E-350) ( don't know about F-150's) came with different,...

Re: Kosei K1 TS question...

Well 4x100 is not so popular, especially for larger wheels. I don't know offset you need, but low offset (15-30) wheels are not that common, there are not many choices in anything wider than 7 inch too. People convert 4x100 to 5x120 in which you can find a lot of wheels with offsets from 15-45mm sta...

Re: Kosei K1 TS question...

I believe there are centering rings to convert 73mm center bore into 57.1. I remember having TSW's with 73mm center bore in 4x100 ET 40 ish with centering rings and spacers on my e30 years ago. From my experience as long center bore of the wheel is bigger than the hub of the car you can always find ...

Re: Kosei K1 TS question...

I know they used to have 15x7 4x100 57.1 center bore with 27 and 30+mm offsets. However it was for 4 lug wheels, they may have 5 lug ones I don't know about.
Hope it helps.
You can always call tirerack, I believe they still carry some of these K1 wheels.
