My Ford F150, '97 with the little V-8 and a 5 speed, gave its life two weeks ago while my wife was driving to work.
Mary is fine, and has blessed the search for a replacement.
I have the money from the insurance company in my account. I am looking for a F250, 2 wheel drive. Late '80's to early 90's.
Thank you for your help.

Re: I need a new truck.
David, glad to hear the truck protected Mary!
Why not check out the GMC / Chevy offerings at the dealer right now? I think they have the "Family Discount" going on and you could probably get a base model, full length bed, with A/C and the small V-8 for a song.
When GM did this in late '05, we picked up the white truck I'm using for $14k out the door. Sticker was around $23K.
It's not a 3/4 ton, but the small V8 (4.8l) pulls my car and trailer easily up and down the Grapevine and up through the Eisenhower tunnel in Colorado without any trouble. It just downshifts and revs the motor out to 5k and beyond, if you ask it to. Unloaded it'll get almost 20mpg on the highway, and towing to Topeka and back I think we averaged over 14 mpg.
Plus a 3-year warranty is a Really Nice Thing.

Re: I need a new truck.
Also ask if Tom Berry has any truck projects going.
Paul Whitehead called me up right after I bought the new cummins and told me about three low mileage probably repo trucks similar to mine for pocket change. There are a lot of truck deals out there. Also Dodge Ram 1500's are on total give away mode right now because the new truck is coming out. I've seen nice 2008 Hemi SLT's for Yaris prices. And those have the lifetime warranty coverage (life time of Chrysler).

Re: I need a new truck.
One of the things I've noticed the last 8 years or so is that Chevy/GM just totally kicks butkus in the mileage wars. And Ford seems to come in last. The Dodge Hemi isn't too bad a truck motor, but it can't touch the GM gas mileage. In the Diesels, the duramax wins on mileage by a mile over cummins. Ford is ridiculously bad. If I wasn't hampered by my Dodge DNA, I'd only look at Chevy/GM trucks. I actually considered the GM 2500hd over my Dodge 3500, but in the big haulers I had a height issue as I needed to park the truck in parking garages (its my daily driver and sometimes I do pretend to be employed). The Dodge was the lowest of the trucks in 2wd trim. Also, I was coming out of an SUV with the kidlet. The Mega Cab is really nice for families used to cavernous passenger compartments. And the dodge had the exhaust brake I'd have to add with the others, and there have been lots of warranty issues over added exhaust brakes. Finally, the big deal was I got the Dodge for several thousand less than a similarly equipped GM. I really love my truck. Just need to avoid hitting massive 8pt Bucks....
