X RUNS

Post by Casey Brier »

sorry to ask such a dumb question, but I have nevr needed to do it before.

I have a friend or two that want to come race this Sunday, but they would like to run in the same part of the day as me. His class would be SM2, but they run in the morning. can they just run for the fun of it in the afternoon. isnt this called "X runs"

if you run X runs, do you get to pick when you get to run?

thanks for the info.

Casey-

Your friends can run time only runs in your heat. They cost the same as normal runs and they will work in the heat corresponding to when they choose to run. You all can run x runs anytime after if you want for $25 and no additional work requirement.

It is possible especially at the GRA event, that the people registration or the event chief will have no idea what you're talking about. That isn't really entirely rudely meant to be a knock on GRA, its just they haven't been that active in the club the last year or two and may not fully know the things we are doing in an effort to increase entries and atleast breakeven at our championships. Maybe print this out and bring it to registration. I'm not sure how they class it, X will work. The important point is that although its an X run set, we call it time only to differentiate the first set of runs because they cost more (mainly because of sanction and insurance which covers you all weekend for as many runs as you want) and you have to work at least once a day.

A couple of caveats... An event chief can eliminate X runs if the event looks over-subscribed, but that should not apply to the Time Only first set of runs even if we enter it in the computer as an X.
But the event chief can decide that a particular heat is too full and push that time entry run to a different heat. Both of those are unlikely to be an issue.

thank you so much for the thorough reply. I will print this andbring it with me. I thought there was a way to get someone to run when ever they wanted as long as they just want to run for a time and not points.

Thank you for clarifying the difference between a time only run and an X run, I always thought they were the same thing.

See you there!

If your friend is a novice he can run in the same group as you in SM2-Novice.

Also note that X-runs (or Time-Only, which is still entered as Class X in the computer) are indexed so we still need to know the regular class when they register. Helps registration a lot if people can find out their class BEFORE the go to reg.

Also, just for general info because we do get people taking more than one set of X-runs, the computer only allows one number/class set. For people with regular class runs and x-runs it's no problem since it would be 14 CSP and 14 XCSP. But for a second (or more) set of X-runs we add a letter to the number, i.e., 14a XCSP. The "a" doesn't have to be on the car, although it wouldn't hurt if you did.

(I have another friend coming in a bone stock S200 that can run in BSP, but since BSP runs the same as CSP it is not a problem)

I just want to clarify that the rules allow novices to run in ANY run group, meaning that both the S2000 and the SM2 car can run in the same heat as you, and even have the correct index so that they can compete directly (if they are interested).

I am just trying to offer a simple solution assuming they are both novices.

Ah, no. The Rules don't. Maybe policy has been that way lately, but it's not in the rules that way.

Seb, you might be thinking of the San Diego rule allowance that was implemented sometime this year. It's as you describe.

When the eboard set fees we talked about the novice competitors being able to run in any heat. It was part of our all out effort to promote the sport to newbies. We wanted to give them a chance for instructors which are tough to find in the first two groups and to assure that late arrivals could be get a lunch course walk and run later. We figured there really was no competitive reason to mandate a particular heat. The only real reason for assigning them their normal class heat is it makes sense, they can see the prepped cars and the experienced competitors in their class. But there is no compelling reason to compell them to run in their classes heat especially if they are in the first two heats.

The supp regs are only partially updated.

I get the feeling they're not going to get updated any more than they already are. If you have that conversation handy in your minutes, can you point out the month etc so the committee can retro it into the rules.
