Cars & Coffee -- new Solo2 members in waiting??

Post by Steve Glusman »

seems like we are always looking for more members...

has anyone ever considered setting up a display @ cars and coffee in Irvine?

I went there this a.m. with my TR club and many of the folks seemed to be interested in AutoX...wish I had club brocures but did give out the web site info...

Perhaps we should dres our cars up in racing gear and attand a cars and coffee event with SCCA membership and SoCal Solo 2 membership applications in hand.....maybe we could even do a mini autoX event in the bigger lot at he Ford center after Cars and coffee...well that might be too much...

just a thought..    don't shoot me ....

I live very close to there (as does Mike S., Robert P., Tom T., Jay W., etc.) and would be happy to help.

See if Lenord has any more of the flyer's I had made up. Once the schedule is firmed up in San Diego, I'll make some more.

Perhaps we should dress our cars up in racing gear
... or just have the BerryRacer show up ... that would attract attention.

We did this with some local CRS Rally Cars last spring and got some interest but no new rallyists. Of course rally is alot less accessible than solo2 to the average person.

I would suggest lining up cars with lots of stickers so they stand out (Schenker, Berry, Equina, etc...) and get there very early to secure the small piece of the lot at the front....

you would need to get there VERY EARLY to get spots at the front, but the organizers are very good about reserving spots for organizations.

It may be partly because it's held at Mazda HQ, but whenever there's a legitimate Mazda group asking for allocated spots, the C&C organizers have been good about reserving a portion of the lot for them.

I usually attend about once a month. This morning I went with my daughter. A fair crowd, a little down from summer. VARA was out in force, advertising same as we're suggesting here. I'd be interested in doing this. I'd even put the stickers on my car to make it look more racey. The weekend between the next two events?

We have to get there early. Like 6:30am early. But it would be nice to get several together to do this. I imagine the 'featured' group is already set for that weekend, so it will probably be difficult to get the little cove section. But even so, it is easy to get a row together if we're early. I'll look and see what I can find out

Well, that could be useful for attracting some people to the Thanksgiving Championship. I think it's a lot easier to encourage someone to join us when we can say "it's next Sunday" instead of "the next event is in January."

I've got a message in to the guy who runs the cars and coffee forum to see how the featured marques thing works. It really won't matter if we're not featured. It just means we will have to arrive early to get space together.

Who will definitely go if we do this on the 15th? Does that Sat work for you Bill? Steve? Mike? Who else lives close? Doug? Gary? Let's reach out and drum up some cars.

I can make it on Sat the 15th and bring my nice Solo race car. It is cool for them to see my red car. After years of hard solo racing it still looks like a show car.
I think SD has an event on Sunday.
I am going to C&C on the 8th with the Scirocco group so I will not be at Speedway that day but I will be at Speedway on the 9th.

That day works for me.

Do we (CSCC Solo2) have any kind of bannereage? Seems like I've seen an SCCA one that Gayle uses for signing-up people @ our events - could we use that?

Might I suggest that everyone that displays their car do a little write up of what their mods. are and what class they run in (Stock, ST*, SP, etc.)?

I can check with Gayle if Mike doesn't know of another. Also, I like your write-up suggestion.

Got it! Retro cars and Grassroots motorsports press for me. :D

We need some cones too.
Most of the cars and drivers at C&C don't want to race. It is full of ego show cars. We need to show them that they can use the car they have in a safe way.

Incase you don't know this..... The Irvine Cops are all over this event and they kick you out at the end so you need to pick up quick and slowly drive out.
