Though I agree that Jason Uyeda needs my help neither Financially nor Mechanically so wouldn't my services wouldn't be required.

I dunno if Ken is qualified to decide, not like he did any setup on it in the first place...Marshall Grice wrote:I think even Ken admits that his car needs setup work to be back in the game.Jason Isley BS RX8 wrote:I wonder if anything has changed on the Kmo car since it was top dog... And the class evolves.
And the setup for 205-40-16 Flakens is different than the setup for 195-50-15 'stones.
If we were discussing a fast car this September the comment makes sense, but how long go was that DSQ?

How would the setup for XSs differ from MXs? Car could probably stand to go up 50lbs. in spring rate with the new breed of tires and get a new cat, an air dam, and Bisimoto header if so inclined. There hasn't really been much innovation in the Civics since 2004 IMO. A couple guys spent some money on shocks (Ken, your Koni yellows are over 5 years old now), but no real must-have mods. Definitely a greater depth of talent and well-sorted cars though.
What's this about 914s not being competitive? They're a potential overdog in SM2 IMO! Would even be an ok choice for XP.
I'm hoping to make it back next year by the SD Tour, keeping fingers crossed for what appears to be a Viper-friendly Lincoln. If anybody has a dead 335/30-18 A6 they'd like to give away, let me know.

I actualy kinda agree with this. The car doesn't weigh anything and with the SM engine allowances it would be pretty impressive. Real question is, who's gunna dump 20grand into a 914.Jason Rhoades wrote: What's this about 914s not being competitive? They're a potential overdog in SM2 IMO! Would even be an ok choice for XP.

Re: Who's Doing What In 2009
i don't think anyone said they weren't competitive overall, just not in dsp trim. Especially when the 914 in question is already well on it's way to a mod class, trying to make it SP legal would be a huge waste of money.Aaron Goldsmith wrote:I actualy kinda agree with this. the engine mods are all basically wiped clean due to the complete unreliable factor, so I'd be starting with a stock engine.
it's mostly the flares and brakes, and the lack of interior.. >_<
i think it'd cost less to go DSP, and have a car that can last a weekend, than to try to make a mod car out of it that can last the weekend.

Re: Who's Doing What In 2009
In XP you wouldn't be limited to the standard 914 engine. Turbo can be done, but it incurs a weight penalty.
In EM you could stick a rotary in it.

You could do the rotary in XP if desired, make of engine is not restricted there, unlike SM. Though unless you're a masochist, an LSx motor makes more sense.Bob Beamesderfer wrote:In XP you wouldn't be limited to the standard 914 engine. Turbo can be done, but it incurs a weight penalty.

the turbo isn't the problem.Bob Beamesderfer wrote:In XP you wouldn't be limited to the standard 914 engine. Turbo can be done, but it incurs a weight penalty.

the inability of the motor to hold together under boost, is the problem..

if i was going that route, I'd just go with a SBC. cheaper and more power.. that, and my friend makes the kits.Bob Beamesderfer wrote:but if you don't have to use the ancient air-cool design ...Jeff Shyu wrote:the turbo isn't the problem.Bob Beamesderfer wrote:In XP you wouldn't be limited to the standard 914 engine. i dunno, an STi (or just a 2.0 wrx)motor might be a better choice then an lsx motor because of the lower displacement based min weight.
1970lbs for turbo'd sti 914 vs a 5.7l lsx motor at 2454 in xp.

You gonna try and fit those on the front of the Viper? I might have Rob Boynton's old rears sitting around somewhere (335-30-18 A6) but don't know for sure. How soon you looking to try those?
Speaking of the Civic J-Rho, the car needs some work so hopefully I can talk you into revamping the relic. I'd love to try the Motons I saw on Mike King's STS2 CRX.

Ken, why are you obsessed with the shiny orange shocks? What makes them better than a 28? Who's going to be the first to drop the Sachs bomb
A 914 is certainly an interesting car, I was on the verge but after the weight addition decided to bail. 20k won't even pay for a decent motor for that car. Who want's to put a shitty Boxer in it when you can have a killer 3.6/8
And, for the record, there seems to be some confusion. The S2k is staying in the garage, I'm running the Elise, hopefully it will be more reliable this year. And Aaron won't fit well into it, so I don't have to worry about him trying to bum a co-drive
