Thanks, as usual, Rick and Christine (and everyone else who works their alchemy in the timing motorhome)! Mike, great course, though I seemed to do much better yesterday than I did today...never seemed to completely get the handle on it. Everyone else who ran the event, great job as well. I had a blast!

Any idea where Stacey's second run cone was? That one hurts.

Car 115 hit a shoot cone in the early part of station 2. (1 of the set of 4 on the outside as you go up the hill)Steve Ekstrand wrote:Any idea where Stacey's second run cone was? That one hurts.
Worker quote, "That car hit a cone (pointing at 115 as the worker was standing at the box setting it back)."
Radio 2, "Did 115 hit that cone?"
Worker quote, "The STS car.... Ekstrand's car hit it."
Radio 2, "OK."

Re: November 9th Results
Doug...
You guys got it all wrong on Stacey's cone. She didn't hit the wall cone she moved the middle slalom cone. That cone was reset late but wasn't out of the box and was upright. I think the worker was referring to that cone as they were setting the other cone on the next car. I watched it from the edge of the grid closest to your section, and the obvious worker confusion at the time and figured it would get screwed up.

Note I asked for conformation from the worker.
This is kind of like the Divisional when you told me the logs are gospel and that it is impossible to change the recorded log even with five witnesses (you told Kathy, "don't even try"). I don't want to give her the cone if she did not tag it but according to your own words there is no chance of changing it even if the worker makes a mistake.
Help me see this clearly. Seriously I don't like it when someone gets a bad call.

Re: November 9th Results
I don't see away of changing anything. A cone wasn't announced. But I was worried with the scenario that played out that she would get one. People were yelling out the workers to reset the slalom cone and did get reset after the I think Salyers went through. People were yelling that the STS car moved that cone. But at the same time they were busy with the other cone. I don't think the slalom cone was out of the box. But the worker did signal anything when he reset it. Impossible for me to know for sure. But again it was the confusion pointing yelling thing that made me fear the counts might get off. It might be karma if the slalom cone was out. She gets called on a cone she didn't get but escapes one she did. In this case it didn't matter much, she's not in the hunt. And she had a bad day anyway. But she'll be pissed that I told her she was clean going into the third run.

I'm the one who saw the middle slalom cone get hit. I came over from station 1 because the guys at station 2 didn't see it. I went to the cone to see if it had moved out of the box and it was 6 inches away from any part of the box. And yes it was upright, that's why the other workers didn't notice it.

I don't think the workers at 2 could have seen the cone get hit. The car was in the way and the cone wasn't down afterwards.
Speaking of not paying attention. Hey Bill Thanks for nearly running us over!!! Did anyone else see him miss the first slalom and come straight for the 3 workers at station 1?

Thanks Jake. Like I said, from 300ft away you just can't be sure about something a cone being in or out of the box. Part of the reason why "witness" testimony can't generally overrule course logs.

That happened during the first run group, too. Not sure who the driver was, but he (she?) came out of there and rather than turning left and heading for the first slalom cone turned right and drove straight at me.Jake Fazeli wrote:I don't think the workers at 2 could have seen the cone get hit. Negative. The Blue MX5 corrected his course before attempting to kill me. The one that got REALLY lost I literally had to get out of the way and red flag him (her?). They stopped, then went back to the course after being given directions as to where the course was. It was a black something... a Nissan I think.

I'm truly sorry about that. As a S.S.S. I became my own worst nightmare.Jake Fazeli wrote:I don't think the workers at 2 could have seen the cone get hit. The car was in the way and the cone wasn't down afterwards.

But, if you think for one sec. that I did that because I wasn't paying attention, you are gravely mistaken. Given that after 10 races this year I was the equivalent of 0.05secs. (0.5 points out) behind Tom in defending my Overall Championship, do you really think I wasn't paying attention? That was my first run, and while waiting ~ 20min. for the course to be cleaned up (great job in getting that done, folks! I really thought I was screwed having to go through the oil dry - but no problems what so ever!) the sun had gone down further than I thought - when I made that right hand pin turn after the start, I was looking directly into the sun and could not SEE A THING!
Again, I'm very sorry - but It was NOT the result of me not paying attention.

Re: November 9th Results
I guess I should at least speak because I audited every group:
- The corner station logs are king, they trump the master radio log.
- The master log is there to help the timing people get a jump on auditing and for the announcer to try and tell people if they are messing up something.
- Prelim results are posted just in case s*** hits the fan and we can't get to the audit that day, the competitors can still see approximatly how they did. They are marked Prelim so that you know that they are not audited yet. (we could save trees and not post it at all)
- I did audit every single group, so if something has appeared on the results then it must have been on the corner station logs.
- It was a cone/DNF intensive course, and it was windy for some of the day, which makes the Master Radio's job that much more difficult, and more likely that stuff was missing from the prelim results.
- If you would like me to teach you how to audit the results, I will be happy to. }:)
- If you work radio on course and it is windy, use the clipboard to sheild the mic from the wind so that we can actually understand what you are saying.
- If you have an issue with a cone/DNF call then I will typically send you to the Event Chairman. I am trying to keep the timing system from freaking out and don't have time to go ask a course worker about your problem. The only problem with that is when the Event Chair is working out on course because we didn't have enough course workers (oh, and she is at the farthest station from the paddock
enjoy your walk)
On a related note: Some of you need to fix your handwriting. If your name/car is wrong in the results then it is probably because you wrote it so sloppy that we couldn't read it.

Re: November 9th Results
Steve,
I am not sure if Stacy got called on the outside cone or the slalom cone. I know that the worker reported that your car (115) hit a cone. The worker was standing next to a cone as the report was made. I questioned it and got conformation. I personally did not see the car hit it because I was logging the 115 car as it entered my zone. I sincerely hope that Stacy did indeed hit a cone and I hope that the workers caught it (or she never hit it and was never called on it). If she was clean I will be very disappointed with our club and personally depressed to think that she got a bad call on her best lap. I appreciate all the nice things Stacy does for us (like registration) and would like to think that the rest of the club is doing its part to provide a good event for folks like you and Stacy.
Station 2 needed more workers. I requested more before we started. Note the number of reruns for car 127 (blue Vette). The layout in station 2 was cone intensive with 4 cone borders, the box at the top, and 2 slaloms. The grip was poor and many drivers were over driving. I personally ran over and reset that slalom cone at one point (not after Stacy drove past it). I told my workers to spread out and check the cones several times. The sun was a factor for me (logs and resetting some cones myself). Ramon did a spectacular job working. He ran all over the station picking up and replacing cones.
We should consider 4 run groups if we are going to have low attendance. I think we need to spend some time teaching our club how to work better (try to be as good as Ramon). I was very tired on Sunday and was grumpy by the end of the day. I hope that I was not responsible for any scoring issues.

Re: November 9th Results
Since we're talking about safety issues, I have a question. On my second X run, I got to the end of station 1/start of station 2 (the tight increasing radius corner at the top of the course) and saw a worker frantically running off the course to get out of my way, but no one red-flagged me. I slowed WAY down and stayed slow until about halfway through the following slalom, then I kept going at full speed through the remainder of the course, hitting a couple cones on the first lane change. When I finished my run, I was told I double coned, but that nobody had seen me slow down, so I wouldn't get a re-run. I didn't care much at the time, since it was just X-runs.
If this happens during my competition runs when it counts, I need to know what to do to. If I slow for a worker on the course (or one that's too close for safety), how do I indicate that that's what I've done, so I get a re-run? Or should I just barrel through until I see a red flag waving?

Stop, stick your arm up - tell radio guy you stopped because of the worker and ask him/her to call you in for a rerun. Just like stopping for a downed cone really.Kurt Rahn wrote:Since we're talking about safety issues, I have a question.
