December 13th practice flyer is up!

Post by Mike Simanyi »

The practice flyer is posted with temporary names in the core roles. Event Chair, SSS and me - the pre-reg guy - are solid; the rest will probably change.

I'll post the Championship flyer shortly. Pre-registration for the Champ event is already available through the Axware On Line Race Management portal at:

https://axwaresystems.com/axorm/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Post questions here and I'll answer as rapidly as possible.

Mike

PS New participants registering for the Championship, please post your car classing questions in the New to Autocross forum and we'll make every effort to help you determine the appropriate class *before* you register for the Championship!

Hey Mike, put the date of the practice in the thread Title, in 4 weeks. "Practice flyer is up!" isn't going to mean much, especially if someone wants to search for info about a past event.

That isn't controlled within the flyer setup itself so I cannot remove it. I'll ask Will if he can do anything about it.

There is no reason you couldn't create a flyer on ORM for it. It has several options, including opening reg for members before non-members, controlling payment to online or by mail or by both. Or just be a flyer with no online reg or payment. Not sure it's still the best way to do practices by mail only. Since we only post info online, those who are online more often have a better chance of getting it in the mail sooner, too. For host clubs that want to let in their members first, that can be done on that team's own forum and an admin can pre-register them. Just thinkin' out loud...

Rick,

I think it's something best discussed on the E-board forum, and probably *after* the revisions to the system at the end of the month. I have several concerns about the process that we need to work out.

I'm new to the co-driver thing at practices, should I mail two entries or do we split one?

Depends whether you're going to split runs in the same group or both take a full set in different groups. If you're splitting runs, you split the fee too. Unless you need a lot of runs to do from-scratch setup or familiarize yourself with the car, I imagine you'd get enough runs by splitting (6-8 each, depending on how subscribed it is and what format they use).

Matthew,

There's a small but key clarification. If you split an entry, you split the overall fee but have to add $10 for the additional sanction fee we pay to National. A split entry would be $70.

but is it correct that the sanction fee is a weekend deal? if so do you get a 10 dollar discount on the championship if you already paid your weekend sanction fee for the practice? Or if you pre pay for the championship and practice at the same time do you waive the extra 10 bucks?

Matthew ... at this stage, she needs a lot of seat time. But don't just have her do the same thing over and over again. Take rides with other drivers. Have other drivers drive you guys around. Sometimes it seems hard for couples to get others involved. ;)

Of course ... print out something like Andy's Top Ten List (he might have a new Top 11 Tips list now?) to reference.

Never assume 8 runs a piece. That would not be a normal practice. 12 runs, 6 each would be the target.

The norm is to each have an entry. Splitting is really something we offer to be friendly to people and cars with "special needs", it was never intended to be used very much.

Correct.

That would not be the rule as first adopted. Did you guys change something or just being English??? I know that's how the sanction works, but the history is a little more murkey.

Clubs were refusing to allow split entries. In asking why, it became clear that ignorance was causing a knee jerk NO reaction. So, the committee voted to make split entries a mandatory offering with a flat $10 fee. Nothing about waiving if you're running the championship, etc. The whole idea was to make it simple for a limited few who had trouble finding the open end of the paper sack.

I didn't think this is how it worked. Although it makes sense, it is hard to keep track of who paid for what and how to deal with refunds for Sunday no-shows, etc. So the $10 became more of a convenience fee to be able to split. To be clear, I didn't plan on tracking and giving $10 refunds for the December event.

As Steve said, we decided to allow split entries for an additional $10. Yes, it essentially covers the sanction fees.

Bottom line: it's flexible, it's responsible, it's reasonable and it doesn't take extra effort to track. That's why I provided those instructions to Matthew.

Thanks, Steve, for your post.

If she wants a...um...different experience than driving in all those silly autocross-suited cars, I'm happy to give her a ride in Moby. I'll be driving the large white Infiniti G35 sedan, number 333.
