24 Hours of LeMons
So speaking of or friendly Cal Club counter parts in ButtonWillow:
http://jalopnik.com/5106708/24-hours-of ... es-in-2009" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
24 Hours Of LeMons Coming To Buttonwillow, Reno-Fernley, Nelson Ledges In 2009!
As the economy continues to take kidney punches, more and more once-exclusive tracks have decided that it's OK to allow the caddies into the pool, and thus it has come to pass that Nelsen Ledges in Ohio, Buttonwillow Raceway Park in Southern California, and Reno-Fernley Raceway in Nevada will be holding 24 Hours Of LeMons races in 2009!
These are some great tracks; the Bay Area contingent is already foaming at the mouth just thinking about that Fernley course. And hey, didja notice that the Buttonwillow race is going head-to-head with the Monterey Historics? You know where I'm gonna be! Get your most gullible friends and a piece-o-crap car together, head over to the application page, and join the racing chaos fun!

Buttonwillow, Mid Aug, $500 race cars. Can you imagine anything less comfortable. I'm young and physically tolerant (note I didn't say 'fit'), but I'll wait and drive the extra distance to Thunderhill in Nov.

Gee... Is there anybody on that team that could locate and acquire a usable salvaged vehicle for the event???

Re: 24 Hours of LeMons
Be careful about nice the vehicle is. The judges award lap penalties based on how nice/competitive the cars is before the start of the event. If its too nice, its a likely candidate for audience crushing.Gee... Is there anybody on that team that could locate and acquire a usable salvaged vehicle for the event???

Re: 24 Hours of LeMons
yeah, even when not racing you couldn't keep an engine running in it for longer then 24 hours. you're on what engine #7 in that thing?
Re: 24 Hours of LeMons
well, the engine didn't die on this one. it was the cracked radiator. i have one of those sitting around.. >_<
it just got to the point where, i had the truck, had the motorcycle, and really didn't want to work on cars anymore, so it just sat there. and then the slow oil leak had enough time to leak a lot of oil..

Just imagine a first gen MR2 getting punted by a 60's Chrysler Imperial.

Re: 24 Hours of LeMons
Very intrigued. Count me in. I can contribute safety gear on a loaner basis (window net, seat, harness, fire extinguisher, 3 layer suit) and labor (Mig Welder too).
So i figure you cut the springs, weld steel strips to the stock swaybar...and get the rest at the Sun Valley Pick-u-part?

Re: 24 Hours of LeMons
Ya, me and some buddies did the thunder hill lemons last year in, what else, a Z of course
Fun, but after car, prep and entry, it's pretty pricy!!
We rearended a dead Neon in the black of night, thrashed all night, came back, and ran the next day only to be punted off course by a sixties Pontiac Belvedere...
Jalopniks did a writup on us...
http://jalopnik.com/338990/team-ddts-28 ... one-barely" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
I have a doner car for another event, just couldn't get into the event this year...

Re: 24 Hours of LeMons
Hey Mako,
If memmory serves
500 for car entry
100 per driver X 5 drivers
car 0-500
seat, belts 300-400 (although you may have it already)
brakes 100-200
tires 400-600 (note, hard to get good "legal" tires under 15"
cage ???
fluids ???
"adjustments" ???
all in about $3-$4K, given the cage is affordable and you have some of the items already...
That works out to $600-800 per driver for 14 hours (yes 14, read the rules) so about 3 hours of driving per driver, if the car doesn't die, and doesn't get squished...
also, you need a full suit and SA rated road race gear
that said, most of this is the "buy in" and once you have done an event, and stick to the same kind of car, you can lower your cost with repeated offenses... IF you can get in
I was ready to do it again, but our team didn't make Jay's "list" for this year at Thunderhill, Oh well...
Best of luck to the Team Blue crew!! I could see an old Subi doing pretty well
Remember, successful entry is primarily based on your teams theme and how goofy and rediculous it is...
cheers,
Ian
