30 years ago I dropped by a pretty big AX that was being held on a seemingly deserted runway complex ... I think near Santa Maria ?

That's right, Santa Maria airport. The Vette club hosts events there every now and then.

The autocross area at the Santa Maria airport is very small and slick as ice.

The one that I walked ... a long time ago ... was two run ways with a big fast corner connecting them. But perhaps if I saw it today, I'd think it was small?

Why not move it to El Toro? The Z folks love the place.

I love El Toro too but the event ios a 5 day hing and AutoX is only 1 part and it is set there.....

So...where else in the SLO area might be worth checking out for a mid size AutoX ? Doesn't need be as big as ours...

Really isn't anything there. The areas that we used at Santa Maria now have buildings in the middle of them, and an unfriendly airport manager. That 200' wide area (old runway) on the SW corner of the lot, which has a kart track on the end, and a skidpad, is really old asphalt, and covered in very loose gravel.

Cal Poly used to have lots, but the only one that met SCCA requirements is almost never unoccupied, being next to student housing.

The last place the Cal Poly Sports Car club ran was in Marina.
