Class for a 1974 914

The "soda can" is the MPS. That was the un-obtanium part I was refering too... I actually have a good one, but am saving it for when I return the car to stock to sell it (down the road). The '74 is a shade over 2000lbs due to things like impact doors and the like - safety stuff. They are really fun cars I think.

To all those that have chimed in, please be sure to hunt down my "baby snot green" car the next time you see me. I'd really like to put some faces with the names.

i think i actually have 3 of those MPS laying around.. X_x i have, if nothing else, a TON of 914 parts still. It's looking like i'll be able to head out for the event in 2 weeks to take pictures (still not willing to risk going down the path of modding my car with only 1 real daily driver).

We performed the taco version at the prom..... Hey it was class of '84.

About 2am we got thrown out of the Ventura Carrows parking lot while playing flag football in tophat and tails.

Glad you finally got the 914 on the road. Sorry I didn't come over and look to see who the car belonged to last Sunday. I was in the Fiat 850 Sedan, also histeric... uh, Historic! class. I think you may find us old farts, sorry Doug - you don't qualify yet! ha - a pretty friendly bunch to race with. We don't get too excited about what we drive - look they let my Fiat run - how much more fun can it get?

Kinda hard to find an older car that hasn't had some sort of upgrades along the way, espeically my 68 Fiat - it's more Abarth than anything else right now - just wish I had the 1600 engine that they put in this body style - oohhh baby! Anyways, welcome to the fun!!! Glad some of my machine work is out getting some exercise.

I'm gonna try and be there this weekend. I sucked another retainer yesterday in San Diego, engine runs okay under acceleration, but sound slike crap at idle. It's a known Fiat problem on several models, espeically when you are cruising around 8000+ rpms. This is the second time this year for the problem to reappear. Working on a new head w/different retainers for next year. I was hoping to limp through the last few events, but... Almost everyone was up against their rev limiters in a couple of places on the very fast and long SD course.

Glad the engine stayed together! I did some work on the Evo engine as well.

Hi Aaron,

It was nice meeting you at the event last Sunday. Sorry I didn't see and responded to your original post before now. I'm not really into the "board". Your car looks great and you should just run it in whatever stock category it belongs. You'll find that the tires (and driver)are the key elements in going fast. We have fun in the Historic Class and it's really a great bunch of guys. We don't get to pissy about minor changes and such. Just come out and run the car and enjoy youself. We try to beat the hell out of each other and then laugh about it afterword.

I'm not sure what Class it would be in maybe ES?

if you're looking for competition, i honestly think you'll find more "equal ground" vehicles within PCA auto-x. doesn't carry the same recognition nor potential purse like SCCA, but you'll find more 914's in the mix.

unfortunately, i don't think the OC PCA runs any auto-x? (it's been many years since i checked though)

Is there a potential purse somewhere that I don't know about. Oh yeah, I forgot about the Berry-Hoosier vending machine.

I double checked everything and he was DEAD on....I've had zero problems....

His problem seems to be with more simple things like filling his car up with gas, finding a fan belt that will stay on above 9000 rpm, and simple stuff like that.

I'm sure your engine is perrrrrrrrrfect!
