Any Decent Racing Movies ...

... that I might have missed?

Of course Grand Prix and LeMan's have their excellent moments and ... bad moments.

I liked On Any Sunday ... man, those movies are REALLY old !

It's not a racing movie, but Ronin has some of the best car chase footage I've ever seen. I've heard the documentary about Audi's ramp-up to LeMans, "Truth in 24," is great.

Rendezvous is awesome, though not strictly a racing movie. The director (supposedly) strapped a camera to the front of his Ferrari 308 and raced through the dawn streets of Paris. Footage is spectacular, especially when you consider that the streets were closed off according to French standards (which is to say half-assed). I say "supposedly," because it was revealed later that the car was some plebeian POS, not the 308 shown in the final scene. Still well worth seeing.

Thanks for reminding me about Dirt 2 Glory. Some friends worked on it ... pretty wild filming experience ... they were on the clock for more then 24 straight hours.

I wonder if some of the less common ones are available on NetFlix ... must check ...

aka (The Hire). Fabulous movies! But not for rental. I believe they gave them out as DVDs to BMWCCA members (I have them), though you can find them on YouTube.

Since we are including documentaries....

"In Car 956" is my alltime favorite. It features in car footage of Derek Bell driving a Group C Porsche 956 around some of the best tracks in the world. The Le Mans footage is awesome but the best part is the full lap of the old Nurburgring particularily when he gets passed by Jackie Ickx in another 956. I have it on VHS but I think I've seen it for sale on DVD at Autobooks, etc.

Cannonball Run I and II

Horrid driving sequences and pretty bad car stunts. But The Sheik, his timid sidekick, and the drunk doctor make me laugh. Also Dean Martin and Sammy Davis Jr. as the Ferrari driving Priests, Roger Moore playing a 007-wannabe, and not to mention the Chimp driving Tony Danza's limo. Ahhh good stuff.
