What's the better tire/wheel combo?

Post by Thomas Edinger »

A. 18lb 16x7.5" wheel and 19lb V710 215/40/16 with 8.5" tread width with a 1lb wheel spacer (.25" thick). Overall weight: 38

B. 20lb 15x8" wheel and 24lb V710 225/50/15 with 9.0" tread width. Overall weight: 44

C. 20lb 15x8" wheel and 20lb A6 225/50/15 with 8.8" tread width. Overall weight: 40

D. 20lb 15x8" wheel and 20lb A6 225/45/15 with 8.8" tread width. Overall weight: 40

Assuming any change in gearing due to tire diameter is acceptable.

I'm looking for the best combination of contact patch / weight / compound / speed.

I would say E. 15X8 with a 275/15 A6.

I'm with Marshall... "D" gives the most advantageous moment of inertia, all other variables being equal.

949Racing makes rims in the 15x8 size that weigh like.... 12.7lbs... For $159 a pop.

I think you should be looking at lighter rims.
