Miata Battery Replacement Suggestions

Post by Mako Koiwai »

Ours doesn't seem to be holding a charge for more then a few days. A new one through MazdaSpeed is $80.

What are folks using for small batteries these days? ... source and price please.

I have an Odyssey been in the car for about four years. I like it. Should be on a trickle charger if the car isn't daily driven. Got it at Porterfield.

Odyssey PC680, I've had one since 2005.

I sell them for a lot less than Porterfield. ;)

Had I known that, I'd have bought it from you.

I think the Braille is overpriced, but it might earn its keep if it has some attribute the Odyssey doesn't.

It does, it fails more quickly than the Odyssey.

the braille is way overpriced. Buying the original, non rebranded, deka version is only ~60 bucks and weighs less then the pc680.

So when is somebody going to sell a racer Lithium Ion battery with a built in regulator (so it doesn't explode or catch on fire).

MY Car owner had a good laugh over her procurement officer's battery suggestion! ... something about in your dreams, and what's for dinner. MY co-drive is a LOT of work!

With that battery, and removing all four strut braces, I think I might crack the ton barrier.

Then the driver goes and screws it all up....

Co-Drive with Steve's Civic ? There are four drivers already, if I can count that high. But it's true that YOU could turn it into a winner. :D

The PC680 comes with threaded inserts, so you can use any terminal you want. Just use an Alum allen-head capscrew if you really want to save weight.

Using anything other than the SAE post on a car is overkill. Do you really want to cut and splice 4 gauge wire?

Skip hamburgers, fries and shakes a week before the event. :D

Or Kimi RaIkonnen [last race for McLaren] at the Brazil GP when Shumi was retiring; Kimi was already set for a seat at Ferrari. ITV reporter asked what he thought of Schumacher's speech and the ceremoniy before the race start. He responded by saying that he didn't hear it because he was "having a s***." The reporter responded by saying something about anything to lighten the car!

Hi Mako,

I just picked up a 15 lb Braille battery and it is significantly smaller and lighter than my OEM. Unfortunately, I can't figure a good way to install. Does anybody have any suggestions? It looks like I need a special bracket for my 99 NB to fit this. Of course I managed to shear the retaining bolt that secured the crossbrace on the OEM battery in the process. Thus the door is open for a new bracket although I am reluctant to drill any mounting holes in my precious baby. Does anybody have advice?

I really like the hold down Braille sells for their batteries, looks really clean.
