They gave them away after the winners helped pick up the cones.

I think I liked Ian Stewart's/Mike Simanyi's El Toro course on Sunday better. 8-)

Actaully, it looks like there's a little rear wheel spin after initial hookup (can't see the fronts), but that's freakin' impressive! Matches what I saw with my naked eye during the El Toro Pro.

I noticed it broke traction a bit after going over the seam in the pavement. The rear end picks up with the loss of forward propulsion and then comes back down when the grip returns. It's a bit harder to see with the black wheels. Of course, all the acceleration squat on that squishy suspension makes it obvious

I remember watching Hiroo Sumida launch his ST Subie 2.5 RS, you could easily see by eye that the fronts would immediately spin, then the center diff would react and send torque to the rear and the car would take off.

I don't think we would want to see Max's final challenge right side run in slow motion - holy hopping tires! http://www.vimeo.com/4366776" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Actually you can see the front wheels spin at the 27 mark, then the center ACD diff very quickly transfered power to spin the rear wheels the rest of the way. Maybe Marshall can figure out by the camera's FPS what fraction of a sec the diff took to react.

when at 100%tps the ACD isn't 'reacting' to anything, it's in full lock mode. I haven't looked at that particular run yet but in general the data says that all 4 wheel speeds are the same(within a small margin) on the launch.

What about the clutch plates slipping at launch? Would that account the effect seen in some of the 300 fps videos?

As per comment above somewhere....the driveline slop and flex would be the logical explanation. We all probably think of steel as incredibly hard and unflexing.....but the reality is different....flex from piston rods, crank to the gears, trans/engine mounts, driveshaft, universal joints, diff mounts, the tires, when added together probably result in anything but a smooth application of power.....if we think of all these components as elastic (which in reality they are), then this elastic-band type of reaction is entirely understandable.....and very interesting!

Looks to me like the fronts speed up at the same time as the rears.

which clutch plates slipping? In the video of Tom launching I don't think the clutch is fully released before the video ends so there is LOTS of clutch slip going on.

I do agree with Will's analysis. the rear tires going over the crack in the pavement causes all 4 wheels to break loose at the 27 sec mark.

If you didn't have tons of clutch slip you'd never be able to launch the car. With so little wheel spin your RPM's would drop to nil.

Not saying they are slipping anymore than typical. That's just the way it works!

OK, my camera also takes stills at 60FPS too.

This is 2 sets of 60FPS bursts back to back.

The camera seems to have nice depth of focus, just pushing the button basically.

They uploaded in reverse, so this video is in reverse, sorry.

Also, this was handheld, and in the wind, sorry for the shakiness. Tripod next time.

It's in .WMV format
