Anaheim Suggestions?

Post by Mari Clements »

Hey Orange County folks--

Got any suggestions for places for dinner in or near Anaheim? I've got a friend from Elementary School who is in Anaheim on business. Any ideas? (Bonus points if we don't need to raid Matt's college fund to go there...)

Best restaurant in OC maybe in all of SoCal is Napa Rose at the Grand California Hotel in Disneyland.

Seriously, it's amazing. And Matt can get a job in college like the rest of us.

If you go, ask to sit at the chef's table.

PHOENIX CLUB! Very authentic german tavern or their formal dining room. I lived in Germany for 20 years ... this is the real thing. Everyone that I've taken there has loved it.

Their Goulash soup is better/meatier then I've had in the home country. Excellent Schnitzel ... sausages, steaks, etc. The Stube (tavern) has more charm ... and you can ask for the full restaurant menu. You can view the two menus here:

What! Max is going beyond his obligatory Outback Steak House recommendation!!!

... I always thought you couldn't teach an old dog new tricks ... you could take a horse to water but not force it to drink, etc. etc.

Cheesecake Factory must have added Rack of Lamb to their menu ... sauce on the side. :?

I love the Cheesecake Factory just as much as Outback - their Lemon Chicken is to die for, and I'm not going to even talk about the Chocolate Mousse Cheesecake!

Oh, I'm sure he will...but a $53,000 job? If one of those is available, it'd be Eric (not Matt) taking it! :D

My son earned $1,500 out of his $54K tuition this year ... the school only allows him to work 10 a week, and the job that the school provided didn't start until a good month after school started. :( At least the job was somewhat interesting for him ... doing high resolution scans of art work for their archives and study programs. Something like $10.50/hour. Better then being a building entrance monitor.

Agreed this restaurant is wonderful, but I think it falls in the category of raiding the college fund.......about $100 plus per depending on wine choice. But the food is good.

Thanks for the suggestions. My friend ended up working 21 hour days, so we weren't able to get together.

Matthew said yes to Berkeley today (both their Computer Science and Electrical Engineering departments were named #1 in the country for 2010, woo hoo).

This is close to Anaheim. In the Orange circle in the Historic downtown, there is a cuban place called Felix. It is very good and inexpensive.

It cracked me up when Mari wrote 'Computer Science and Electrical Engineering'...Reminded me of a quote from a movie I can't remember the name of: 'We have both kinds of music, Country AND Western!' Was it the Blues Brothers? <shrug>

Sorry, another random off-topic excursion. It's a hard habit to break.

I don't remember ... and that was one of the early highlights of my career ... working on the Blues Brothers! Freeze frame the crew shot of us singing the last song ... I'm sitting on the far right, 2nd row I believe. The camera dept. knew that we were shooting that with a very wide 14 mm lens ... and the people in the back rows would be VERY small. :D
