What are the best performance brake pads for (stock) 996?

Post by Christos Adam »

Hi guys

I have a good friend of mine with a 996 Carrera that he wants to improve the braking performance of his car.
The rotors of his car are already worn and he would be soon replacing rotors and pads.

I was wondering if the people that auto cross 996s (and in general 911s) would recommended something different than the factory stock pads for better braking performance...
Also would you suggest updating the brake fluid to something different (dot 5.1, Motul 600 etc) or that's an overkill for street/occasional track use?

Chris

Pagid "blacks" work really, really well on my Boxster. I notice they sell a lot of them at the Porsche garage I use. Takes like 2 minutes to put them on.

Thank you so much Tom!
By the way do you know of a Porsche garage that they don't charge an arm and a leg to change rotors and pads?
In which one you go?

You should find one close to where he lives. But cheap and Porsche don't fit in the same sentence. Go to the Porsche club web site http://pcaocr.org/ and look at their sponsors for a start. Club members get a discount on the labor rates usually. I use Stuttgart in Costa Mesa. The pads you can change in about the same amount of time as changing the tires and all you need is a needle nose pliers. Obviously rotors are more complicated.

That's for the Boxster actually, The 996 may be more involved. I got ahead of myself.

FWIW, for autox, I loved the stock pads on my Boxster and never felt a need to improve braking. It was always improve the driver. The car was better than the driver ;)
