2009 Lone Pine Autocross

Post by Tom Phillips »

Our apologies for the last minute notification on this.

Ok – so here is the scoop on Lone Pine –

We needed to make it a Solo2 event.

The up side - - none of the safety requirements for Solo Trials, no roll bars, window nets, arm restraints. If you have a convertible with belts, brakes and tires, come on down! The normal safety issues, tech inspection and common sense will be enforced.

The course designer is working on top speeds of between 60-65+ MPH in some areas on a really long course.

The event officials are working their butts off to make sure all entrants have a great time, but remember this event has last minute changes, like run groups and course changes. So show up, be flexible and be ready to have a great AX weekend.

Also remember, Lone Pine proceeds help support the Braille Institute Youth Center, so if you have the time and funds, they need your dollars.

Per the Solo Rules, that would be for Stock and Street Prepared.

So if everyone signed up for CST & CSM...

Now that it's an autox, would we have a Time-Only group (i.e. allows passengers)?

Just throwing it out there, I know you all are working hard last minute to make a great course for everyone w/ the new rules: have you thought of making a Pro Solo type format? The airstrip is HUGE & splitting it in half would definitely cut it down some w/ the speed rules, as well as have significantly more cars on course at once. No drag light needed, old school drag strip flagger will do just great.

Whew! I'm glad I can wear shorts and a tee shirt, and can drive with my window down! It's supposed to be hot!

Oversteer is better than understeer because you don't see the tree you're hitting.

Here's another nugget: Friday night hospitality includes Swedish meatballs and noodles, mixed green salad, lots of beer and soda, and cookies for dessert.

All with a view of Mt. Whitney and the Sierras. It doesn't get much better than that!

Only mid eighties, not any worse than Fontucky. Although we always advise bringing clothing for anything from scorching to freezing. And don't forget there is the possibility of going off course, which while not too dangerous, will fill your car with dirt and weeds. (BTW, if you do think you are going off course, be sure to do it straight, not sideways.)

Bring LOTS of bug spray, Kurt. Those lil buggers out there are hungry. I got bit exactly where I stopped spraying last year (edges of sleeves/neckline), haha.

I get to wear my non-cotton track pant/shirt combo I just got in, YAY!

There will likely be fun runs on Saturday. Run Groups and Classes will be condensed to a very few indexed classses, typically a single Combined Stock class (maybe SK if enough cars), a single Combined Street Prepared class, a single Women's class, Combined Prep/Mod and maybe a couple more. If there are enough cars in a standard class you may get your own.
