FYI Curt, there's a 2003 S2K that I just saw for under $10K with a hardtop. It has a salvage title but looks pretty good in the pics. I believe it was on Auto Trader. I have plenty of stock wheels if you need a set.

That's the one. Looks like it's a good deal. The hard top alone is worth $2K. $8K for a 2003 if it's as clean as it looks might be worth considering.Curt Luther wrote:You mean this one:George Schilling wrote:FYI Curt, there's a 2003 S2K that I just saw for under $10K with a hardtop. Re: STR: S2000 vrs MX-5 thoughts?
I'd be careful arguing WHY a NA Miata is faster than a CRX under SP rules. If you understand why the Miatas are faster, you'll see that it acutally goes against your argument.Curt Luther wrote:
I think that's where some people are getting, for lack of a better word, confused. They see the car Brian built doing better than the car Jason built and seeing that Brian's car looked more stock and they say, "See, it's gotta be faster in ST trim too". An NA Miata is way faster in CSP trim than a Civic or CRX in the same trim. By the same arguement for the MX-5 and S2000 above, the Miata should be faster than the CRX in STS, but, at this point, it's not...
Yes, the lighter car on street tires does have the advantage, theoretically. That being said Rhoades did quite well a couple of years ago bucking this trend. So there is precident that it can be done...
As for Jason U vs. Brian's cars, Jason's car barely (if at all) has the advantage, and that's with the sticky R-comps and ridiculously wide rubber/wheels (295s on 11 inch wide wheels!). Safe to say that Uyeda's car can put all his power down. Even if tire and wheel width were unlimited in STR, the NC is gonna be a lot faster on street tires, and then limit it to 255/265s on 9 inches, the S2000 has no chance.
Using J-Rho's well deserved win at Nationals isn't a good argument either. First, one of the keys to his victory was using the sticky Yoks that were unavailable to the Spec Civics. And let's not forget, Jason Frank was DSQed, but his times were pretty valid (ok, let's add .1 sec for the 5 pounds of undercoat), and was quite a bit faster than J-Rho. But J-Rho crossed his Ts and dotted his i-s, and was rightfully the National Champ. Tire choice is the same for both the S2k and NC, so that is a mute point.
The 06+ S2000s have the reflashable ECUs, so it's the easiest to extract any gains that you'd get from I/H/E, and you can easily raise the rev-limiter, which is one of the crutches of running an AP2 in AS. There is one other piggy back solution for the older AP2s, but you'd need to know someone that knew what he was doing. Then there is the really ghetto way of raising the rev limiter.Darren Cole wrote:
James,
What benefits do the 2006+ S2000 have over the 2004 and 2005?
Where you been? did you move again? S2000 crowd is getting bigger than ever!
I should have been more specific though, key is the 08+ S2000. Why? The ability to easily transform it into the CR, and get the weight savings, with the 2.2L motor and ECU.
I'm in Korea right now and will be here til 2010, then HOPEFULLY back to SoCal...

Maybe the STAC will realize S2000s need more than anemic 8.5" and 245s

Haha, you don't know what size those wheels are do you? I don't think the fronts or rears will be legal for STR when the final rules come out, even if they allow 9s...Ken Motonishi wrote:you mean we can't run 10" wheels? :mrt:

The sad part is Kenny only has two of those wheels, the other side is sporting econo spares.

Re: STR: S2000 vrs MX-5 thoughts?
Yes...I realize that. I remeasured the wheels the other day to make sure they haven't changed in dimension. Hopefully 9s are allowed. Emilio is going to make some nice 17x9 wheels- the 6ULR- with a +63 offset soon just for the S2000.
Dood, are you gonna eat that?

cool... It'll give Injen, AEM, and DC Sports money since everyone else uses ebay performance parts or Super expensive ones that give the uber-power ;)
