August 8th Event

Post by KJ Christopher »

Just some quick details on the August 8th event. Curt will have the flyer up soon.

It will be a practice format. With the obvious demand for practice time (we had more than 150 people who wanted into the CASOC practice!), we want to fill that need. The really good news is that not having to deal with a Sunday championship course set up, we have some options. First, we will have two courses by two different designers. Everybody will run each course. Second, since we are doubling up the running area, we will be able to open registration up to far more people than a normal practice while still providing the extra runs and fun, flexible format. Current target - 150 people. Think of it as two practices happening at the same time, everybody will get the normal experience.

We'll update this thread once Curt posts the flyer. In the meantime, spread the word!!

How many clams do you want us to send ?

Funny, yesterday I started a message about having two courses in order to accommodate more drivers, and trashed it because I figured that the powers that be would assume it to be impractical or unwieldy! Thanks for allowing your imaginations to soar! My thoughts included hiring Jason W. as a subcontractor to provision, build and run the "B" course.

I am guessing that a last minute switch from a champ event to a practice day occurred last night???

Last I heard it was a champ. day.

Kudos for the two course decision.

Will there be an option to switch courses at some point in the day?

Yes, yes, yes and if it's like how we did the two course practice two years ago you will run one course in the morning and the other in the afternoon.

This will be an open practice, with no priorities. Everyone will get a fair stab should we somehow exceed 140 entries!

Having said that, BMW drivers will not be allowed in since they are a bit uppity.

Did you know that the head of Skoda died in a car accident in said brand of vehicle? Rather embarrassing to those at the HQ in Prague.

A *real* company man would have died in a competitor's car.

I hope I make this event since I was rejected at the hoop for the July 25th one. The check has been in the mail since Monday and I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

Considering how many people we are opening this event up for, the response so far is underwhelming...

Its been listed in the calendar forever as a championship, even when it was being debated. I didn't see any big get the word out effort once the change was made.

We've trained people to send in their checks for practices once a month as part of our regular deal. Special practices don't seem to get noticed. You ask the newbies and I constantly hear confusion that they didn't think it was open to them or didn't know.

I think it's in the unpublished June minutes that the proposed "Newbie Practice Bat Signal" was voted down due to lack of interest...

...and your post explains why of the 25-30 envelopes I've received, there are only 2 from people I've never heard of...

...keep those cards and letters coming. Lots of room in this one. Everyone should get a ride...
