Breaking News

Post by Renee Angel »

For those of you who know me well enough to know that I try not to hide anything from anyone and speak my mind, I thought I would update "My family" on the late breaking news. I have had some major medical issues occur and have recently been diagnosed with possible liver cancer. I have an appointment this Thursday at the Loma Linda University Transplant Institute to discuss my course of treatment, i.e. medication to shrink tumor, surgery or possible transplant. Right now, I am the same old Renee and don't feel like anything has changed, so I will continue with my duties in Solo as long as I can. I am keeping a positive attitude and am not letting this put me down. I am going to come out to the event on Sunday, if only just to see everyone and spend time with my family. Keep me in your prayers.

In addition to well wishes, my advice, as a cancer survivor myself, is to learn as much as possible and stay proactive in the decision-making about your course of treatment. You may not always have a choice as to what type of treatment you have available, but it is your body and you're the one calling the shots, so don't be afraid to get second (or even third or fourth) opinions if necessary so you can make informed decisions.

Update:

It has been confirmed - I have liver cancer. The tumor is too large for surgery or transplant, so they are going to try and shrink it with either radiation or chemo. If that doesn't work - the prognosis is 1-2 years, maybe less. As far as I'm concerned, the 1-2 years or less, is NOT an option.

I am scheduled for an MRI, more lab work & bone density testing. Please keep me in your thoughts - I'm hoping I can beat this, but it's not looking good.

See ya all Sunday.

You could go back to time trials and hill climbs and scare that tumor right out of there!
Don't forget how tough you are. We all know, but its okay to remind yourself now and then.

See you Sunday!
