More Slow Motion Video Aug. 22/23rd

Post by Mako Koiwai »

100's more slow motion video clips from the "Last Chance Before Lincoln" Practice and run group 1,2 and 4 from Sunday's races.

... continuation of the first slo-mo video thread ... but NOW asking for you to request clips if you would like them ... since I've done most (but not necessarily all) of the video for the folks going to Nationals. If you're going to Nationals but haven't seen clips from say AM Saturday, or you were an out-of-town driver, and want to see your shots, please let me know ... and tell me what type of car ... car number if applicable.

If you find the video's useful, after being told I should do this by your fellow drivers, please consider making a small Paypal donation using my email address: makofoto at earthlink dot net http://tinyurl.com/ks23mn

Some people are using this as an opportunity to catch up for stills that they've benefitted from in the past. Some said they would pay me back buying me lunch off of the PFM BBQ ... which doesn't seem to be happening anymore. Some have forgotten ...

Besides spending the many hours on course with my spotter Karen shooting the video ... I'm having to spend many hours uploading the videos because I have to do each one individually, ie. no batch uploading of videos. Fortunately, or unfortunately ... I'm not otherwise working this week.

If you're suffering from the economic downturn like a lot of us are ... don't worry about a donation.

Again a Big Thanks to Henry Bjoin Studio for lending us the marvelous Casio EX-F1 hi-speed camera!

Thanks Mako! I'm sure my car was too filthy to warrant any video coverage :D But dirty S2000 videos would be awesome! Thanks!

I think it was more of an earthy brown, but gray depending on how the light hits it :D Mine was the one running top down with the front lip. Ron had the S2000 with the sexy hardtop!

Also, could you post mine to youtube Mako? For some reason Vimeo never works on my browser. Thanks!

Mako, I'd be interested in any more you may have of the Viper.

I can provide you with an FTP site to upload to me directly if that's easier than Vimeo. Is choice of where to slow-down/speed-up the final video done in post or on the camera at record-time?

:edit: - By the way, I think you could make a killing selling people these videos at Nats, particularly if you're able to get a good setup at the "showcase" corners they usually have. The "bullet time" slo-mo effect popularized by the Matrix is now seen in just about every sporty-car commercial, people dig it.

It's done at time of recording, the camera does a beautiful job of transitioning from 30 to 300 FPS.

I'll be bringing my Casio EX-F1 to Nats with me for Thurs and Fri. Good idea Jason...

I saw your videos and thought "Cool, I can post these on LT"... and then watched them and decided not to. I have no video of me driving well either. Just Robert and Andrea. The one of me is slaughtering the slalom cones.

How often did you run on Sat. AM ? I only find two clips so far ... makes me worried that you might be on the 2nd half of another clip?

Thanks Mako  Don't worry about Saturday this is good enough, I have all the evidence I need that I suck at driving :)

I'm having so much fun watching how the pros are getting it done...very educational.

grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

"Buy a new one"

My boy spilt on his Mac laptop. Took it to the Apple store and they said it needs a new mother board ... which means might as well by a new laptop. I took it to an independent computer store, and they said yeah, need to buy a new one. Took it apart ... could barely seen any evidence of liquid damage ... cleaned up what I could ... works like new ?!

Back in the day when I was working in a computer shop and I'd get a machine with a spill, I'd take all the cards and motherboard home that evening, thoroughly hose them off in the backyard, and then blow them dry with compressed air (so the water didn't have time to corrode anything). The only real problem is water in mechanical drives or acidic solutions (coffee, soda) - everything else is pretty much sealed or molded within plastic chip packages. Probably a good idea to run any connectors and socketed components through a few plug/unplug cycles.

Once I had a panicked customer come in with a 3.5" floppy disk with critical financial records that had gotten "Hawaiian Punched". I split the case open, washed the plastic disk and hub in the sink, dried it with a towel, then put the disk back into a new case that I had opened. I popped that into a machine and made two fresh copies for the guy. He watched the whole procedure in amazement.

Electronics is all smoke and mirrors - but you have to be careful not to let the magic smoke esacape or the chip won't work anymore!

One more for Fred: http://www.vimeo.com/6328731

I was hoping to have upgraded to Apple OS Snow Leopard by now, so I could easily/quickly trim these clips ... but still a no go ... don't even ask ...
Image

... at least this upgrade arrived in the mail in a couple of days instead of the usual week long wait when one orders Apple software. :unimpressed:
