FIA is investigating allegations that Nelson Piquet Jr. was given team orders to crash, thus bringing out the safety car at time that was advantageous to Alonso.

In a word, No. He showed some talent in the lower rungs of open-wheel racing, but he was slow in practice, couldn't qualify and didn't have any race pace.

At least this debacle won't effect the 2008 Driver's and Constructor's championships.

I'm shocked, shocked to find that team orders are going on in F1!

Gotta admit though that ordering an accident, which obviously had to be in an area sufficiently dangerous to warrant a safety car is way beyond the typical team orders accusations.

"Massa suspicious over Piquet crash last year"

...

But reports this week suggest that Brazilian Massa, who drives for Ferrari, immediately suspected that Piquet had been asked to crash on purpose so that the safety car would emerge and the sister Renault of Fernando Alonso win the race.

"He crashed in a very strange way," TV Globo commentator Reginaldo Leme is quoted as saying.

"It struck me when I was talking recently with Felipe Massa. Felipe had gone to Briatore and said, 'This crash was not right, it happened because you wanted it to'."

Leme also said other drivers had been suspicious of the Piquet crash.

Ferrari cheats, McLaren cheats.....yet there are drivers that will still drive for them.

I think you're missing the point. Piquet's driving was mediocre at best; now in a fit of revenge he offers "proof" of what some already suspected.

Unfortunately yes.....look at what his former teammate did before he came to Renault. He snitched BIG time on McLaren to the FIA.

If he had skills he wouldn't be snitching, he'd be happily driving for Renault or another team.

Also keep in mind that Nelson P. Sr. drove for Flav at Benneton in 1991, although that was Schumi's first year and the old dog retired after that season. So if slighting his son comes off as slighting him, a 3-time F1 champion, this whole mess might be a family affair.

World Motorsport Council makes it official, there will be a session to deal with the Singapore allegations.

Every conspiracy story needs a good headline moniker.

Singapore Sling; OK, but too long

Crashgate; I'm a bit gated out

Piquet's Complaint; OK, longer than Singapore Sling, but it has a literary reference that readers of The Times of London will get.

Feel free to add suggestions!

Sep.10 (GMM) Pat Symonds told Nelson Piquet to "be careful" before the allegedly deliberate crash in Singapore last year, and Flavio Briatore said "thank you" to the Brazilian driver after the incident helped Fernando Alonso win the inaugural night race.

The information emerged on Thursday not in the form of unsubstantiated gossip in the Monza paddock, but a formalised statement to the FIA given by the sacked Renault driver Piquet on July 30.

A signed copy of the document was scanned and published by the website F1SA.com.
...
Unclear if this was over the pit-to-car radio or not...
If not, then it is just one persons allegations...

Piquet already has immunity. Now Pat Symonds is offered immunity.
You can guess who will fall next week:
