Huh...That's weird. I thought the Farmington tour counted as a divisional, and the Vail tour was the Western States Championship.
I wonder what happened?

Glen,
RMDIV set up this event a bit differently in that they restricted RM Championships to only RM members. Therefore if someone from RMDIV finished 3rd in a class, but they were the highest finishing RMDIV person in that class (first and second form outside the Div), they would be the RMDIV Solo Champion. This was set up this way to encourage “locals” to participate as they would not have to concern themselves with out of town “ringers”, at least relative to the RMDIV scoring.
This method is not common, but it has been done in the past.

I know the rules for the Triad said "Divisional Championship" and that's why I thought Bill was smart running the RMR's one event over running 2 of out of 3 in NorPac.
We (I and some others) had AZ willing to run the Divisional here and even after it was announced as a Championship, to do all the work for a one day Divisional Championship, breaking out the Divisional people from the regular event but no was the answer

I'm all for a level of regional autonomy, but when it comes to events that look, smell and sound like they have some kind of national significance then the sanctioning body needs to protect ALL members.

Re: Triad Award list
+1. And, they didn't even have the decency to spell Glenn's name right. How much did Bill spend to drive up there? Think he would have if he'd known it wouldn't count? That's gonna have a chilling effect, unfortunately. That's the kind of detail you have to make patently clear up front, and repeat it a whole bunch, not mention it as an afterthought after the event is over. Without the "national ringers" that event is just a local yokel show.

Re: Triad Award list
If they are going to do national-level awards like this, then SCCA should enforce some consistency on the rules of the constituent events that make one eligible for the award. If a division wants to go off and have some difference in their rules because they are a bunch of special snowflakes, then that event should not be part of the award. I see two Rocky Mountain people listed as eligible, and as far as I'm concerned neither of them should be - both of them might have been beaten at their event by someone else for all we know....
From the SCCA announcement of the Triad Award:
From the SCCA announcement of the Triad Award:
No mention of the fact that only RM people would be eligible for that Divisional! The very first SCCA Solo Triad quest begins this weekend, with Southeast Division commencing its three-event championship series. Old Dominion Region will host the event, which will take place at ACU-4 Naval Amphibious Base in Norfolk, Va. The guy who got the CS Solo Triad Award credit for Farmington, Robert Godby, came in LAST in CS at the event against no other competition from the RM region.

I don't think you're reading the chart right, Andrew. Only the highlighted ones are eligible for the Triad award.Andrew Bingham wrote:The guy who got the CS Solo Triad Award credit for Farmington, Robert Godby, came in LAST in CS at the event against no other competition from the RM region.

He's not eligible for the award (because he didn't win a 2nd event), but he did receive credit for that event as a 'win' despite being last...Leonard Cachola wrote:I don't think you're reading the chart right, Andrew. And the worst part, and probably the stupidest reason for SCCA allowing this stuff, is that it cheapens the achievement. It means nothing if the competition isn't compeltely above board. If I was the SCCA, I would've cut this off at the knees and ensured that it never happens again.Leonard Cachola wrote:Ah, I get it now.Andrew Bingham wrote:

Re: Triad Award list
But it means that we could do the same thing. I can see why they did it. Kinda like why we pulled the Divisional entrants out last year for the Championship. Some of those hot shoes could have really done some damage in some classes and some locals just might have skipped the event if it wasn't a two-day event.Kurt Rahn wrote:And the worst part, and probably the stupidest reason for SCCA allowing this stuff, is that it cheapens the achievement. Bottom line is if we had our own this year, we would be routing Bill on as it's up to every Division to put one on.
PS, I do feel bad for Bill. I made my pitch to SCCA however Bill needs to win.

Be interesting to hear the view point of national level RM division folks. I'd suggest talking privately with somebody like Paul Brown.

Re: Triad Award list
I'm on my way home, stopping off @ a Safeway in Grand Junction to gas up, in more ways than one
As far as the Div. it's a moot point, but If I had won @ Lincoln, I would've raised bloody h*ll: I asked Sandy and Cindy @ the Farmington Tour if this counts as my Divisional win, as I saw they were handing out trophies for Divisional placings - I was told yes, it most certainly DOES count, I just wouldn't be receiving a trophy as they were only for RM people.
Oh, well.
P.S. Thanks, Glenn, for going to bat for me.
