Am I dreaming? Letter from the police!

Post by Christos Adam »

OK guys

Please help me understand what is going on here and if I should start jumping up and down from excitement }:) :gpower:
Well I believe you remember that recently I got pulled over for not having a third brake light and then I was asked to pop my hood and ended up getting a ticket to add the third brake light and to go to a state referee.

Anyway, I just got a letter today from Glendora Police department... while I was ready to say OK what's next what else they want from me...I saw this:

In case you can not read it from the photo, it has my ticket number, the police officer's name and signature and it states:
DISREGARD CASE, #09-xxxx, NOT NEEDED }:)

Does that means that I don't need to go to the referee and to the court? }:)

depends if the citation number is for the SMOG/emissions violation. My guess is its just for the third brake light.

The citation had two codes, one for the light and one of the smog ref, this was the citation number and not any of the individual codes.
The mailed this to me on the next day - I never got an official citation in the mail.

I'll definitely call on Monday to see if I'm ok with the smog ref...

I called the court today and it was close due to a National Holiday??? I don't know about you guys but I had to go to work today ...

Anyways ...so I called the police department and I went through their records. Eventually they found the letter that they sent me and they said that they agree that it was very confusing but they meant disregard the case number - basically saying that I don't have to use the case number - but the situation is still valid and I still have to go to court.

...so back to square one...

I'm curious, what will happen if I showed up at court with that letter saying that I didn't know that I need to provide any corrections since it says disregard the case not needed.

That sucks, hope you get through this alright. And BTW today is Columbus Day, which technically isn't a holiday. Banks and Government Offices are closed (They close on any day thats even remotely considered a holiday) Kids are still at school, and private corporations are open.

I would be very tempted to show up (in court) and show the clerk the "evidence" and explain that you thought the PD was dropping the citation & see what happens, a little luck & it's dismissed.

Forget to mention the call to the PD.

Up date - a year later :)

I went to the court a week ago... showed up there, gave the letter to the judge and said that I'm not sure if I should be here anyways since I got this letter from the police.
The judge looked at the letter closely - then he looked back at me and said "so did you fix the car?" - "No reason to fix the car" I said, "the car was always good".
OK he said you are dismissed and we'll return you any money paid for this claim

A few days ago I also got my registration stickers and now I just need to install my front license plate and hopefully everything should be fine }:)
