Safety Steward training session, December 5th!

Post by Mike Simanyi »

Ladies and Gents!

We're desperately in need of additional safety stewards (and some renewals) and Saturday, December 5th is now on the schedule for the training session.

We're hosting the class at the La Quinta Inn, Ontario Airport location and can handle about 25 students. The class will start at 9:00 am and we'll provide lunch.

Please post here if you're interested and can make it or if you have any questions. If you're an existing SSS (license current or expired), you should attend to satisfy the "renewal training" requirement recently added or you will not be able to renew your license.

A few benefits:
  • Guaranteed practice entry (when you're the SSS or backup SSS)
  • Discounted practice entry is the norm for the SSS of record.
  • Looking for free lunch? Join us at La Quinta Inn for SSS training!
  • Licensed safety stewards are 82.64% more likely to understand trumped up statistics.
  • Licensed safety stewards' drive faster and have more fun. (Except Bill.)
If you're one of our regular participants and would like to give something back to the community, we'd love to have your help.

I need to know you're going to be there. We can only seat about 25 people if we retain the tables, and I think Brian would like to attract some S.D. people and AZ people as well.

Will you be joining us Mako?

Sorry Craig, no. This was the best day we could coordinate based on responses in the first thread (around 6 weeks ago.)

Taking the LSAT on the 5th :( . Is the training and Annual thing? Or a "have one when we're low on safety stewards" thing?

More the latter than the former. I'll add this is the first session under our new Divisional SSS, Brian Robertson, and we may find that they happen more frequently going forward as the process is refined.

It's not a WereRabbit, it's a Super Rabbit.

He was eating dinner under my hood, sitting on top of the container that held the repellent!

Back on topic, he won't be attending the training session. Who else will be joining us?

Unfortunately I'm out. I'd love to hear about the next one, preferably with some more lead time.

What pisses me off is that Stacey and I renew Feb 1. We have to have a class to renew, but its Dec 5th take it our leave it. That is the day of a big party planned 6 months in advance we can't miss, since we're throwing it. One date, take it or leave it.

Has National thought this through??? We're a big region, eventually we'll come up with more qualified instructors and have more options for classes, but it takes time to set in motion (too bad if you renew in Jan or Feb or Mar). By June I'm sure we will have lessened the problem. What are other regions going to do??? I think the whole SSS system is at risk right now. If they are hardasses about this requirement, you're going to see small regions across the country without an SSS to put on an event.

Even in the prosperous SW div they are asking AZ people to come to Ontario again with a one shot deal.

Have the damn SSC and Pete Lyons get together and put on a high quality presentation for renewals and video tape the damn thing and put it on the web. Its going to be 2010, this isn't hard. Its works at the state and federal level for all sorts of compliance training and continuing education. This is easy stuff.

Steve's right. If this is that important to SCCA, there should be a better way to make it happen. Video on the web is a great idea.
