Stock Wheel Size ?

Post by Mako Koiwai »

Theoretical question ... for a Stock class car ... does one HAVE to use oem wheel sizes or no larger then oem sizes? If one's daily driver wheels/tires are narrower then oem and one ends up using them as ones rain tire, is that OK? Sort of like a lower class car can always run in a higher class?

In this case using oem 1" narrower C5 sized wheels on a Z-06.

The daily driver wheels that Karen REALLY wants are only available in C5 sizes, not Z06.

Surprisingly not very many Z06 size wheels out there that we like. CCW doesn't make a one piece wheel in Z06 sizes, and Bogart racing wheels doesn't make an 18" wheel. Henry can use 17" wheels all around in ASP. Looking for "mesh" style wheels in polished aluminum, not chromed.

Z06 = 17 X 9.5 & 18 X 10.5

13.4 WHEELS
Any type wheel may be used provided it complies with the following:
it is the same width and diameter as standard, and as installed
(including wheel spacers if applicable) it does not have an offset
more than +/- 0.25 inch from a standard wheel for the car. The
resultant change in track dimensions is allowed.
Wheel spacers are permitted, provided the resultant combination
complies with the offset requirements of this section. Wheel studs,
lug nuts, and/or bolt length may be changed.

I know you are not such a newb you were serious about using smaller wheels in stock.

The very popular CCW classic can be had in Z06 sizes. And there are a few guys running around on one-piece Circle Racing Wheels (now known as Spin Werks) in Z06 sizes.

Of course ... it's just the "rain" (street) tire issue if Karen ends up with narrower then Z06 wheels for DD duty ... something like ZR1 replicas.

Rita has been incredibly generous in lending us a set of two piece CCW's wheels while her shoulder recovers. Karen loves those wheels so much that she wanted to get them in one piece as her blingy street wheels, but CCW doesn't make them (1 piece) in 17", only 18" and larger.

It's a waste to get them in two piece as street wheels only ... and they're two expensive to buy two sets. Karen doesn't like the oem Z06 wheel design ... although they look "right", chromed, like Rita has for DD'ing on a Z06.

The one-piece wheels are a different series, the Corsair. fyi the Classic is a three-piece wheel, not two. ;) The Classics come up for sale used more often than you might think, and being a three-piece, even if a used set is not the width you want, they can be rebuilt.

FWIW - for street use I use chrome C6 Z06 replica wheels (17x9.5 and 18x10.5). They look really nice, the downside is they are heavier than oem Z06 (about +5 lbs/corner), but for bling and street use I didn't care. Around 1k for new.

That's what I'm trying to get Karen to go for (chrome Z06 replicas) ... but she just doesn't like the oem design. I didn't either, but now I see them as being part of the original Z06 look. The chrome ones look great on Rita's car.

I thought they were three piece ... but could only count two parts ... besides the bolts ... which make them 87 piece wheels.

Mako,

Keep in mind that I'm talking about C6 (not c5) replica wheels. Very different.

Of course ... I don't think Rita is running C5 "Z06" replica wheels on her C5. :D

Karen is about as down to earth and practical as they come, but like a lot of women, she likes nice "shoes." :(
