Thanks Sebastian. The STS classification confused me for a sec but now I see STS is for 2 seaters. I thought the height adjustment capabilites of the coilovers moved me to STS.
I've been running CST for awhile now, but all of a sudden the CST class is getting REALLY full at events. I drive a Datsun 240Z with a V8 swap and was wondering if I could be under any class aside from CST. I asked this question awhile earlier and got some responses that told me that the only option I had was to do XP, but I don't think we run XP here. I'm just wondering if there have been any changes in the rules which would perhaps allow me to change classes within our region without breaking any rules.

Yes we run XP, as part of CPM (Combined Prep/Mod) which is all the Prepared and Modified cars indexed together. We just don't get enough of those cars to have individual classes.
Since light is faster than sound...many people look bright until they speak...

Not sure why you see that as a problem. If by that you mean the competition is daunting, all the other classes you could run are typically faster. But I guess a V8 datsun can probably run CST, CSM, SSM, XP, EM and I suppose AM for completeness. The latter three all fit into the CPM-index, and XP would have the best index number. You would benefit greatly by upgrading your tires to match the class you want to enter.
Maybe they'd let you run historic with a CST index. You could check with Brian Howlett.

1989 Mazda RX-7 Turbo. Motor has been street ported, larger fuel injectors, modified the turbo (stock turbine side, new compressor housing/wheel), the car is running Haltech ECU. Some suspension mods as well (Springs/Struts). Does have a 3" down pipe and have removed the catalytic converter.
So, what class am I in?

The trubo puts it into SSM. If it wasn't for that I think it may be ASP, although you would have to check on the street porting thing.

Thanks Rick and Bill! I actually have no problems running CST, its just that I want to keep my options to classes open. I need a lot more seat time + a TON of suspension upgrades to get competitive in CST, let alone XP!
If you are only planning on competing locally for the foreseeable future, CST is the easiest class to run in for street tires. We have a wide enough range of cars/drivers this year, so there's bound to be someone you are close to in times!
I know this is a car classing thread but don't forget to take advantage of "Instructor Runs" if you don't do so already.

-I was also wondering if I got coilovers would it change the class?
-Also I've been reading that the exhaust has to be a certain db to run sometimes. My exhaust is a full catback and I added a longer resonator, but I'm not sure if still under 95 db, is there anyway I check it?

95db is pretty loud. I'm sure yours which you made quieter is under. Some ST cars under the limit only have a resonator and end after the driver.

95db is pretty loud. I'm sure yours which you made quieter is under. Some ST cars under the limit only have a resonator and end after the driver.
Your car is also eligible for the local CST class (California Street Touring)for street-licensed cars, where you can pretty much run amok with modifications as long as the car has street tires with a treadwear rating of 140 or higher (if you have stock tires, they most certainly qualify here).
^^ oh thanks doug, I might stick with other class for now. I don't really plan on any other power mods. I haven't been to one autocross event yet, what day would you guys recommend for me to go try it out? I don't want to show up on some pro day and embarrass myself
