Happy 10th Birthday to me
As of today, I've been autocrossing for 10 years! It was the Ventura F-Body Association-hosted event at Norton AFB.

Happy Auto-x B-day Will!
I didn't know that they had auto-x in ventura back in the day... too bad they don't anymore since it's so close to me!

The club was from Ventura, the event was at Norton, even further East than the speedway.

Ouch, you guys are killing me!
Let's see, hard to remember this far back
.....my first autocross was 1973 at Pleasanton (Alameda County Fairgrounds), in the second of my nine 510s
Lot was so small, we did a warm-up lap, then 2 timed laps.

Re: Happy 10th Birthday to me
Wow.. I have been doing this almost as long as Mcwho.
My first was sometime in 1977 at UC Riverside... small sloped lot with lots of curbed planters. Almost every event one or more cars went away on a hook.
Looking back at the results from those events showed that several current drivers were doing it back then also.

1972 at a Group Z, club only autocross (actually called slaloms back then) in my first 240Z, at the police training facility in Long Beach. I even have a Super 8 movie with sound (microphone taped to the back bumper near the exhaust) of it somewhere.
Since light is faster than sound...many people look bright until they speak...

Re: Happy 10th Birthday to me
My first event was July 8th, 2007. Drove my 1968 Barracuda out to El Toro. Woodruff did an instructor ride along with me. Finished second to last in historic, squeezing past Glusman. Seems like yesterday. Brought the convertible M3 out to the next event, night of the living dead.

Re: Happy 10th Birthday to me
I can't remember my first event but it was in the Sears parking lot in Pomona about 1965 or 1966 and I drove my 1960 Bugeye Sprite. Later we ran at Hollywood Bowl in the terraced parking lots. The pit/main straight area of Riverside Raceway was the last one (clutch problems and divorce) for about 40 years. Returned in January of 2006...in fact, just replaced the clutch in the NEW 1966 Sprite.

Re: Happy 10th Birthday to me
I'm impressed by those who remember their first event. I know mine was in '97 at Jack Murphy stadium (as it was at the time and is again the only location in SD), and what car a Prism GSi, but no clue as to what month or lot.
I do remember my first course design and event Chair (same event) was the first of two championships (and several more practices) held at NTC. I also designed and chaired the only championship held at Soak City, though again a few additional practices were held there.

April 1986 - Riverside International Raceway
We used to hold events there at the turn 8 complex when the road racers ran the short track - sort of like what we used to do at Buttonwillow...

Re: Happy 10th Birthday to me
I sampled one in '80? Ventura county fair grounds, held by a Corvette club, maybe GRA?
Then did my next one at Norton in Oct '99.

First autox vid...somehow slipped through tech without belts. Hahahah. Was odd driving from the passenger side
. First three Runs were at norton in 2002 and the last three were at fontucky during the summer. The camera is shakey on the first couple runs because my friend holding the camera couldn't stop laughing.

My first event was in 1969 at the Ford plant in Fremont With the National Council of Mustang Clubs. That parking lot was 1/8 mile wide and 1/4 mile long with just 5 light poles and a separate area for pits. Still competing in the same, much more modified, car.

November 2003 at Hollywood Park. My new chum Sebastian, who i had recently met at a NASIOC install day, invited me along. We were both hooked immediately. Shauna was there as well, and I think she had just done the Ladies School. Luckily for Sebastian, she was hooked as well!

I love the Ladies' School. Smartest thing I've ever done was get Shauna in that school.Max Hayter wrote:November 2003 at Hollywood Park.
